My Chic Week: September 7-20

Monday, September 24, 2018

Long time, no blog post! The past two weeks of school have been absolutely crazy- it's no longer that easy part of the semester where you are going to class yet do not really have anything to do so getting adjusted to actually studying for tests and having projects to work on has been hectic. I feel like it's been forever since I've last posted here on Chic in Carolina but it's only been two weeks, which is kinda crazy!

I've missed blogging but as y'all know, I am a college student so that always comes first so sometimes  the blog gets put on the back burner unfortunately! I am definitely going to be posting more often for the rest of the semester as I have so many fun blog post ideas that I want to share with y'all- feel free to comment on this post, email me (chicincarolina@gmail.com), or even message me on Twitter or Instagram if you have any ideas for posts you want to see here on Chic in Carolina.

I figured that the best way to catch y'all up on what I've been up to while I wasn't posting is to do a long overdue My Chic Week post for y'all!

Two weekends ago was our first away game of the season so I wound up watching it at a friend's apartment with a bunch of my friends, which was so much fun! That week was pretty busy as I had my first test of the semester, I had a few pal dates for potential littles, and then a volunteering event with my sorority.

my Lilly order also came and I am so excited about it!

Two weekends ago was Family Weekend in Tigertown! My family braved the hurricane and came down for the weekend and I was so happy to see them! My sorority had Parents' Cocktail at a nearby farm on Friday night, which was so fun as it was a gorgeous night!

the amazing sunset that night!

The day was gameday and even though it was a noon game due to the impending hurricane, it was still so fun! My parents had a tailgate both before and after the game, which was so fun! I then headed back to my room for a bit before going to dinner downtown with my parents and our family friends!

my gameday ootd: old show me your mumu dress (similar) ⎢sunglassescowboy boots ⎢old tory burch crossbody (similar) ⎢earrings

my mom got these cupcakes for the tailgate and they were so adorable!

My parents left early Sunday morning so they stopped by my dorm to stay goodbye and then I had a pretty chill Sunday getting homework done and relaxing before a busy week!

This past week was pretty crazy as I had two tests to study for! I also started my field placement for this semester, which I am so excited about! As y'all probably know at this post, I am an Elementary Education major here at Clemson, which I absolutely adore, and one of the cool things about Clemson's education program is that we get to go into the classroom fairly early into our college careers. I had a field placement last fall as well and I'm so excited to have another one. My classroom teacher is super great and I also love having the chance to wear cute "teacher clothes" haha!

I am so excited to be back to posting more regularly and I hope y'all have a great start to your week!

Weekend Reading

Sunday, September 9, 2018

Happy Sunday y'all! I hope you are enjoying your weekend- mine has been really laid back, which is nice as my classes are starting to pick up (I have my first exam later this week). I have a lot of fun links to share with y'all so grab a cup of coffee and let's get reading!

image via my instagram

1. As both a blogger and an Elementary Education major, I thought this article on how teachers are becoming influencers on social media was so interesting!

2. How perfect would this Free People dress be for a Clemson football game?

3. Jillian shared a Q&A all about blogging on her blog this week and I thought it was so interesting to read!

4. I just finished the third novel in the Thousandth Floor series and loved it- if you loved Gossip Girl, you would love this book!

5. Have y'all seen that you can now shop J. Crew Mercantile on Amazon? Such a great way to take advantage of that two day shipping!

6. My friend Annaliese just celebrated her 6th (!!!) blogging anniversary and I am so excited for her!

7. The Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale is on TOMORROW! Who else is excited? If you live by a store, you can actually start shopping this weekend but if you live farther away, be sure to read my post on my tips for the sale as well as my fit guide for the pieces that will be included in the sale!

8. Love love love this classic outfit on Carly

9. Why you should take the time to clean out your closet (and save some $$$ while doing so!)

10. Chocolate Yasso bars have been my favorite treat as of late and I absolutely love that Brighton did a taste test of all the flavors on her blog!

Have a great rest of your weekend!

My Chic Week: August 31- September 6

Friday, September 7, 2018

Happy FriYAY y'all! Who else is excited that it's the weekend? I don't have anything crazy planned and Clemson has an away game so it will be nice to have a laid back weekend without having too much going on!

Last Friday was a busy day as I had class in the morning and then moved my car to the other side of campus for the football game. I then grabbed lunch with one of our new members and then we headed to the First Friday parade.

At Clemson, First Friday is a tradition where we have a big parade on the Friday before the first home football game. It's the kickoff of the football season and all of the sororities at Clemson walk in the parade, which is super fun and exciting!

After the parade ended, I went to an ice cream place downtown with some of my friends and then my friend Olivia and I hung out on the hall and order Insomnia Cookies (let's just say it wasn't our healthiest day haha!)

Saturday was an exciting game- our first home football game of the season! It was a noon game against Furman so Rachel and I were up somewhat early to get ready for the game and meet up with friends to take pictures!

my gameday ootd: old anthropologie top ⎢bralette ⎢skortsunglasseshoopssandals

We walked around for a bit, stopped by a tailgate, and then ran into my big and her friends before heading into the game. I wound up only staying the first half as the heat got to me but the rest of my day was pretty low key!

Sunday morning I slept in a bit before meeting my big to grab breakfast and then go to the grocery store. I had a pretty productive day as I cleaned and organized my room and did some homework before my sorority chapter meeting.

my ootd for chapter: fitbit ⎢letter shirt ⎢jeans (on sale!) ⎢sandals

Monday was Labor Day but Clemson does this fun thing where they don't give us Labor Day off so it was just a normal day of classes! Thankfully, I only have one class on Monday/Wednesday/Fridays so it wasn't anything too crazy. After class, I picked up my mail and then got some homework done.

There was a cookout right in my area of campus so my friends and I went to that and then just hung out!

Tuesdays are definitely my busiest day of the week as I have four classes plus a lab, which makes things a little crazy! After class, my friends and I cooked dinner on the sorority hall, which was super fun!

I slept in a bit on Wednesday morning before going to class. I then camped out in the library pretty much all afternoon on Wednesday catching up on homework!

Thursday was another somewhat busy day as I had class all day and then had a pal date for Theta. A pal date is a way for the new members to meet girls in the sophomore pledge class and they are always super fun. After that ended, I hung out with friends and we wound up staying up pretty late just catching up!

Happy Friday!

Lately...

Thursday, September 6, 2018

Happy Thursday y'all! We are so much closer to reaching the weekend! I'm excited for today's blog post as I'm sharing another Lately post with y'all! This is a post that is somewhat popular in the blogging world but I think it is such a fun way for y'all to get more of a glimpse of my day-to-day life!

image via my Instagram

Eating...
Chocolate Sea Salt RX bars! I bought a few different granola bars to bring with me to school and these were my favorite! I'll have one in the morning for a quick breakfast before class, especially for the mornings when I have an 8 AM!

Drinking...

Califa Farm's Mocha Cold Brew Coffee with Almond Milk! This is one of my favorite items to buy at Whole Foods while I am home so I was so excited to see it at the Publix here in Clemson. It's the perfect way to save some money as I don't have to go to Starbucks to get my iced coffee fix!

Listening...
to Spotify's "Songs to Sing in the Car" playlist and this Gossip Girl inspired playlist with songs from the show- both are so good!

Wearing...

these Lululemon shorts and these sunglasses! My go-to outfit for running around campus is far from glamorous and these Lululemon shorts that I bought last summer are still on constant rotation! I bought these sunnies last summer and seriously wear them everyday!

Loving...

living on my sorority hall! At Clemson, we do not have sorority houses but have halls on campus instead! Most sorority girls live on their hall their sophomore year and it has been so fun so far having most of my friends in the same building as me!

Reading...

The Towering Sky. This is the third book in the Thousandth Floor series and it is such a fun read! If you loved Gossip Girl, you will love this book!

Watching...

To All the Boys I Loved Before. I've mentioned this movie on Chic in Carolina before but if you haven't see it, you definitely should! My roommate Rachel and I are a little bit obsessed as it is so stinking cute!

Needing...
to get into a good routine of working out! I'm really good about going to Pure Barre while I am at home but my workout routine here at Clemson can definitely be approved upon. I need to figured out what times work best in my schedule so I can get my act together with this one!

Excited...
for cooler fall weather! Even though spring and summer are my favorite months of the year, I'm ready for some cooler weather and cute fall clothing (and to also not melt while walking to class!)

Wanting...
all of Tuckernuck's new fall pieces! My favorites are this striped topthis shirtdressthis sweater, this chic coatthis dress, and this top!

Bid Day 2018!

Wednesday, September 5, 2018

I've mentioned sorority recruitment a few times in the past month here on Chic in Carolina (you can read my life update here as well as see what I wore for recruitment in this post) and the best part of recruitment week is Bid Day! Recruitment is a crazy, emotional, sleep-deprived week for everyone involved but it's so worth it at Bid Day when a fabulous new member class comes running down the hill to you!

As y'all probably know by now, I am a Kappa Alpha Theta at Clemson University in South Carolina. I am currently a sophomore so this was my first year on the "other side" of the process as a sister (you can read about my freshman bid day here and see my recruitment outfits as a PNM here).

Bid Day is a super fun day as we get all decked out in our theme- think face paint, tutus, and more glitter than you can imagine! Our theme this year was "The Greatest Sisterhood on Earth" so a circus theme, which turned out so cute as we all wore bright colors to welcome home all of our sweet new members!

One of the girls in my chapter made this super fun Bid Day video, which perfectly represents all the excitement that is a Theta Bid Day!

Are you in a sorority? If so, how was your bid day? Let me know in the comments!

August Favorites

Tuesday, September 4, 2018

How on Earth is it already September? I feel like I say this every single month during my favorites post but I feel like it's especially true for August! This month was a busy one as I started the month at the lake in New York, headed back to Clemson for sorority recruitment, and then started my sophomore year of college (which I still can't believe!).

Every month here on Chic in Carolina, I love sharing with y'all my monthly favorites from the month before (check out previous editions here). It's such a fun way to recap the month and to also share some products that I have been loving with y'all!

Tory Burch Miller Sandals- My old Tory Burch Millers finally bit the bullet after four years of wear (I got them for Christmas my sophomore year of high school!) so I decided to invest in another pair (the exact same pair actually). This was such a good decision as I wear them all the time since they look good paired so many different ways! Definitely a preppy closet essential!

Drybar Flatiron- My flatiron broke somewhere in between Charlotte and Clemson so I had to order a new one! The one I had been previously been using was legitimately from middle school so I decided to invest in the Drybar version as I love my Drybar curling iron so much!

J. Crew Jean Shorts- The last time I owned a pair of jean shorts was in middle school and I definitely waited too long to change that as this pair is amazing. The fit is perfect as it hits at just the right length and is flattering but not too tight either. They're perfect for when you want to get a little more dressed up than usual for class!

Bliss Lemon & Sage Moisturizing Body Butter (c/o)- I received this body butter in a blogger package earlier this month (which was featured in this Instagram post) and it has been such a favorite this month. I love how moisturizing it is as the lotion itself is so thick and luxurious.

J. Crew Nightshirt- This is really random but I love cute pajama sets! I feel like they are so much more put together than an oversized tee and shorts, which is a little strange but we're going to roll with it! I purchased this nightshirt during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale back in July and I seriously love how chic it is!

Kind Breakfast Protein Bars- I bought these to keep in my dorm for a quick breakfast as I don't have time to grab breakfast in the dining hall (especially before my 8 AM) and they are so good. I bought the almond butter flavor, which is so yummy!

Lululemon Short Sleeve Tee- My mom actually gave this tee to me as she decided she didn't wear it enough and I have been obsessed with it this month. The fabric is so comfortable and perfect for those boiling hot, end-of-summer South Carolina days. Mine is old but I linked a super similar color for y'all!

Yasso Chocolate Fudge Bars (not pictured)- I couldn't take a picture of these as I threw away the box and the popsicles are currently in the freezer but they are so good! They're the perfect treat at the end of the day but they don't have too many calories either!

What were your August Favorites? Let me know in the comments!
