Fourth of July Outfit Inspiration

I honestly cannot believe that the Fourth of July is less than two weeks ago! I always love the Fourth as it's fun to spend quality time with my family celebrating and, of course, wearing red, white, and blue. My family decided that we are going up to our lake house in New York for the holiday this year and I'm so excited (although I don't know if it can top visiting Pearl Harbor while in Hawaii last year). We typically go at the end of July but thought that going earlier would give us a bit more time for me to prep for college move in!

As I mentioned before, I absolutely love coming up with a red, white, and blue outfit to wear on the Fourth. My wardrobe has a lot of navy and white so I have that covered but usually lack in the red (haha). I've put together a few different outfits that are perfect for the Fourth no matter what your plans are!

If your plans for the holiday are on the fancy side or you just want to dress up, this outfit is perfect for you! I always love the patriotic print Lilly Pulitzer releases each summer and this year is no exception as this dress is so cute and is perfect for the Fourth as it gives you room to move around (helpful if you're heading to a barbecue with yummy treats!). Keep it simple with sandals but add an extra touch with a gorgeous Kendra Scott necklace and these darling sunglasses from Draper James!

I love that this outfit is so versatile since it is casual yet festive at the same time. This is perfect for all sorts of celebrations, whether it's attending a barbecue or going to your town's Fourth of July parade. These elastic waist shorts are perfect for hot summer days as they aren't as tight as typical chino shorts and who can say no to a striped shirt?

If your Fourth of July plans are more casual and consist of hanging out by the water, whether it's the beach, lake, or pool, this outfit is for you! I bought this bikini for spring break and absolutely love it (plus it's on sale right now!). Add a red coverup (love this one from Vineyard Vines) and you're ready to go!

What are your Fourth of July plans? Let me know in the comments!

Happy National Wear Your Lilly Day!

Happy National Wear Your Lilly Day and Happy First Day of Summer! If that doesn't brighten up your Wednesday (especially if it's raining like it is in NC!), I don't know what will! I originally planned on sharing these pictures with y'all yesterday but life got in the way and if it's NWYLD, I have to share a Lilly outfit right?

Last Friday while my family and I were in Kiawah Island (my favorite place!), we went to a casual poolside dinner at our hotel so I wore my favorite casual Lilly dress this season. I've worn it a few times nannying when I want to be comfortable but also look cute and it's perfect for casual dinners as well!

On a side note, Lilly Pulitzer is having the cutest Gift with Purchase bracelets with purchases 75 dollars and more to celebrate!

What Lilly item are you wearing today to celebrate NWYLD? Let me know in the comments!

How to Get Digitally Organized

If you read Friday's blog post, you know that I got a new laptop last week to use for college this fall. I'll be sharing more about my computer and how I choose it in a future blog post but for now, I wanted to talk about how I have been getting myself organized with it.

I feel like I'm always the most productive on Mondays as the new week is a fresh start to get ahead and get organized (you can read old organization posts here!) so I figured today would be the perfect time to share this post with y'all. I would say that I'm pretty organized in most aspects of my life from my agenda to my closet to my purse. One area that is often overlooked is my laptop, which is slightly ironic considering how often I use it for blogging and for school work during the school year.

image via an old Instagram story (be sure to follow me on Instagram to see my stories!)

Put your emails into Folders based on categories
I like having my inbox at 0 or as close to it as possible and having folders for different categories helps me do that. I have a folder for every category I could think of (on my personal, I have a shopping category for promotional emails from stores; on my school email, I have a folder for each class; on my blog email, I have folders for collaborations with brands and then with other bloggers) and when I receive an email, I'll put it immediately into the appropriate folder.

Delete emails older than a year old
Last week, I was going through some of my old emails to clear them out and realized that I had random promotional emails from different brands from like two years ago. Some emails I do hang on to because they're good to have on hand but obviously, you don't need a J. Crew email from 3 years ago. This helps to clear some digital clutter as well.

Delete the deleted folder
Once you sort through each folder of your email and delete the old ones, delete everything in your deleted folder. Deleting items doesn't create space until you do this. This not only applies to your inbox but to your trash can as well!

Put your files into folder
The system that works for me is having a folder for each thing I can think of (so a folder for each class, a folder for each organization I'm involved in, a folder for the blog, a folder for personal items, etc.) and then creating sub-folders inside of each of those folders. I may do an entire blog post on how I organize this but having folders help because instead of searching your entire computer for your English essay you can go to your English folder, then to the unit folder, and then find your essay easily.

Find a home for each item in your downloads folder
I don't know if computers other than Macs have the downloads folder feature but if yours does, keep on reading! I hate having a million and one things hanging out in my downloads folder so take those items and find them their "home," whether it's in one of your folders or in your trash can.

Utilize the cloud
I used Google Docs and Google Drive in high school a lot and it was so helpful as you know the cloud will always be there regardless if you get a new computer or whatever. It also helps to save space on your computer as your files aren't physically being stored on your computer so utilizing the cloud, whether for your pictures or for your old files, is so useful in staying organized!

Be patient
Being digitally organized, despite our best efforts, takes time so it's important to be patient. Whether it's taking a hour to airdrop your photos to your computer or it's taking longer to get organized than you expected, be patient and know that you will get there. Since it does take time, maybe dedicate a day to getting everything organized or group different organization tasks together that you can get done in a set amount of time.

Organize your pictures by month or by year
Since my old laptop was a school computer, I never kept my personal pictures on it but would keep them on my family's desktop computer. When I got my new computer, I knew I wanted to transfer everything over so it would be in one place. I've been sorting my pictures by month (so like June 2017) or by year for older pictures (Freshman year) so that they are easy to access and every picture has a "home".

Do you have any additional tips for getting (and staying) digitally organized? Let me know in the comments!

My Chic Week: June 9-15

Happy Friday y'all! Who else is excited for the weekend ahead? *raises hand*

My family and I are heading off on a weekend trip to Kiawah today and I'm so excited- I'll be sharing more on the blog soon but for now, be sure to follow along on Instagram and Twitter. Next week is another exciting one as I'll be heading down to Clemson for orientation! For now, grab a cup of coffee and let's catch up on the last week!

Friday morning, I worked on some blog work for a bit before going to a Pure Barre class at noon. After class, I had an errand to run and then came home to eat lunch. My mom and I then headed to the Verizon store, which is always a lot of fun, as both of our phones were having issues (I was constantly running out of data and it was driving me crazy!). We both wound up getting new iPhones so once we got home, we set up our phones.

I had another grad party to go to Friday night, which is always fun as I've been able to catch up friends I haven't seen in a while and eat some good food too!

On Saturday, I woke up somewhat early so I could go to a Pure Barre class before starting my day. After barre, I babysat for hours as I took the little girl I was babysitting to the park, to Chick-fil-a for lunch and ice cream, and then back to her house to watch a movie.

After babysitting, I went home and changed before heading over to my friend Cara's shopping event she was hosting at the cutest boutique. It was so fun to see her and catch up a little bit as it had been a while (back in April when we went out for Annaliese's going away dinner).

off-the-shoulder top (I bought this at Lilly Pulitzer's Splash into Summer event a few weeks ago and love it!)

I then went to Church with my family and then we had a casual dinner at home, which was nice after a few nights of grad parties in a row.

Sunday morning, I slept in and then enjoyed breakfast in my pajamas before working on this week's blog posts for a bit. My family decided to go out to our favorite restaurant on the lake for lunch so we took the boat over and enjoyed a casual lunch by the water.

I scheduled a mid-afternoon Pure Barre class for Sunday, which was nice as I was able to sleep in (and not set an alarm haha!) but also get my workout in as well.

Monday morning, I slept in and then worked on some blog work before going to barre. I was able to be super productive on Monday, which is always a great way to start the week, as I submitted the picture for my Clemson ID (!!!) and was able to cross a couple of other items off of my to-do list as well. I worked in the afternoon as well on Monday.

Tuesday was a fun one as the little boy I nanny over to my house to go swimming and to play. We had a pretty full day as we swam in my pool, played with just about every toy in my house (my mom saved a bunch from when my siblings and I were younger), ate lunch, went out for ice cream with my siblings, and then played some more.

We then went to his swim lesson and then went to pick his younger brother up from school.

After work, I came home, ate dinner, showered, and then watched the latest episode of Pretty Little Liars (I only watch because I need my answers haha) before going to bed.

My new laptop (thanks mom and dad!) came on Wednesday morning so I spent most of my morning setting that up. I went to barre class and then came home to continue setting up my computer (I have lots and lots of pictures to transfer over!). I also nannied Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday morning, I was up bright and early to go to work, with a stop at Starbucks on the way for an Iced Vanilla Latte. I worked for a few hours and then went shopping afterwards. I was wanting to go to Lilly Pulitzer as they had new arrivals and just re-released the iconic Lobstah Roll print so that was my first stop!

orange luxletic top (had to get it because it's Clemson orange) ⎢sailboat top

After Lilly, I went to Sephora and J. Crew before grabbing a quick lunch at Panera. I had one more store to go to and then headed back to the family I nanny for's house to get some work done as well.

I worked a few more hours in the afternoon and then headed home to eat dinner and get started on packing for today's trip!

On my Radar:

1. KIAWAH! My family and I are heading down today to one of my favorite places ever for a weekend trip and I am so excited. We didn't go last year as we went to Hawaii (which you can read about here) so I am so excited to go back (you can read about our last trip in this old blog post!).

2. The Everygirl is my favorite for inspirational posts and I love this one about reduce stress and leading a less hectic life!

3. My friend Renee shared her freshman dorm room at Elon on her blog last week and it's so cute!

4. In case you missed it, Kiel James Patrick and his wife, Sarah, announced that they're having a baby with what may be the preppiest baby announcement ever!

The Story Behind my Louis Vuitton Bag

If you follow me on Instagram (if you don't, you totally should!) or read this blog post, you may have seen that I recently purchased the Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 bag. This is my first "fancy designer" bag (I have Tory Burch and Kate Spade bags but my Louis is first high-end bag so to speak) and I wanted to share the story of why I bought it with y'all!

image via my Instagram

I first really saw Louis Vuitton bags when I started using Pinterest and saw them featured in different preppy Outfit of the Days. I, of course, loved them but they were a bit out of my budget as a thousand dollars for a bag is a lot of money (especially if you're a ninth grader without a job). I've always loved both the Speedy and the Neverfull but I've always loved the Speedy more as it seems more classic Louis Vuitton to me and is more unique as many other brands carry totes similar in size to the Neverfull. The Speedy has always been a "dream bag" of mine that I planned on getting at some point in the future.

Second semester of junior year was a rough one as I had a tough course load and was experiencing a lot of changes in my friend group that I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to do a lot. I decided that if I could save up the money throughout senior year, I would buy myself a Speedy as a graduation gift.

So throughout my senior year, I saved 100 dollars a month and by May, I had enough to buy my bag! It was so exciting to purchase the bag I had dreamed about for years and saved up for years. I know that I will be able to use it for years to come (I've been told by ladies who comment on my bag that their Louis bags are from 15 years ago or something like that and they still use them regularly) as it will never go out of style, making the price tag totally worth it to me! Plus, it was a great way to celebrate graduating and I know that every time I use my bag, I will think about graduation and high school!

What is your favorite "from me, to me" gift that you've treated yourself to? Let me know in the comments!

A Summer Dress Perfect for Your Beach Vacation

While in Chicago last month, my dad and I popped into Vineyard Vines and I wound up trying on and loving this casual dress that is just perfect for summer! I knew it would be perfect for graduation parties and for my family's beach trip to Kiawah Island that is this weekend (!!!). Plus it has the cutest detailing- who can say no to flutter sleeves and tassels?

My little sister graduated from middle school last week (which you can read about in Monday's My Chic Week post) and I decided to wear this dress as it is chic yet casual and gives off such a summery vibe. I decided to keep my accessories simple with my favorite monogram necklace and the pearl studs my grandparents gave me for graduation to continue the laid-back, chic look. In addition to my sister's graduation, I know this dress will be worn so much this summer from this weekend's beach trip to Church to brunch as it is so cute and I love that it's on the looser side, which gives it a beachy feel!

My Updated Makeup Routine

Last summer, I shared my makeup routine with y'all and as I was looking through some of my old blog posts, I realized that would be a fun one to update as some of the products in my routine have changed and I have found new favorites.

I am definitely not a makeup guru by any means and I'm pretty simplistic when it comes to makeup as I am a fan of a more natural look but I do love a good trip to Sephora to look at all of the products. My aunt gave me a Birchbox subscription for my birthday this year, which has been so fun as I've been able to try a bunch of new products that I would not usually pick at the store.

One other thing to note is that I don't wear all of this makeup on a day-to-day basis as I try to, when I can, not wear makeup to help my skin be clearer (so like on days where all I have going on is barre class and nannying). I don't wear foundation every day either but I'll note the steps that I only do when I want a more "full face" makeup look!

1. I start off by applying First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Cream all over my face. This cream is super moisturizing and definitely keeps dry skin at bay so I always start with this step (even on days where I'm not wearing any makeup!).

2. Next, I'll grab my Beauty Blender and blend the MAC Strobe Cream all over my face. I received this as a sample in my Birchbox last month and love it as it makes my face look so much brighter- I will definitely be buying the full size once I finish the sample.

3. If I'm going to be wearing foundation that day, I'll first apply the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer using my Beauty Blender. I first received this product as a sample and was a bit skeptical of if it would be beneficial as it seems a bit unnecessary but this primer makes your makeup look so much smoother and I loved it so much that I bought the full-size version.

4. I'll then put the Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiation Concealer onto any blemishes and under my eyes and blend using my Beauty Blender. This concealer does its job and I love that it doesn't feel too heavy!

5. After hearing so many good things about it, I bought the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation last year and absolutely love it! It makes your skin look flawless (hence the title) and even though I try not to wear liquid foundation everyday as it clogs up your skin, it's perfect for days where you want to wear more makeup.

6. I received this Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush as part of my birthday gift from Sephora and it's perfect for a "full face" make up look. I've never been a big blush person but I have this one in the shade "Paaarty" and it's really pretty on.

7. Too Faced discounted the powder foundation I featured in my last makeup routine post so I recently switched to the Bare Minerals Powder Foundation and love it so far! I apply it using the big Lilly Pulitzer brush in the graphic and I wear this powder everyday as it looks good on its own or when used with liquid foundation.

8. I definitely don't do this everyday but after brushing out my eyebrows with a brush I got from Sephora, I will in some spots in my eyebrows with the Anastasia Brow Wiz to make my eyebrows look thicker.

9. I've been using Clinique's Quickliner for Eyes for years now and love how easy it is to use as well as the richness of the color. In the past year or so, I started using the color "Intense Clove" as they discounted my previous favorite and I really love it!

10. I've been using the Naked Basics Palette for eye shadow for about a year and a half and love it as it's perfect for makeup newbies. All of the shades are easy to use and aren't super crazy colors that you can't use it your day to day life. I typically use the colors "Foxy", "W.O.S.", and "Naked 2" and apply them using the smaller Lilly Pulitzer brushes!

11. I'm definitely not the first blogger to talk about how great the Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara is but it's definitely my favorite.

12. This Coola Makeup Setting Spray was another sample that I received in my Birchbox last month that I love so far! After applying all of my makeup, I'll spray it all over my face (avoid the eyes though!) and then pat it in. I feel like it makes my makeup last so much longer and it's refreshing as well.

13. Even though the price tag is pretty steep, I absolutely love the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rosé. It helps my lips feel so moisturized and it smells so good too. I've repurchased this one multiple times now and think it's absolutely worth the splurge!

What are staples in your makeup routine? Let me know in the comments!

My Chic Week: June 2-8

Happy Monday y'all! So this post was supposed to go up last Friday but obviously, I didn't get around to making that one happen haha. I try to pre-schedule my posts for the week over the weekend so they're ready to go but I still work on My Chic Week posts throughout the week so y'all can have an updated look at what I've been up to!

So I'll catch you up on last week today and then on Friday, we'll catch up on this week and I'll share what's On my Radar!

Friday was a relaxed day as we didn't have any graduation events going on and since I have the day off of work on Fridays, I pretty much relaxed and caught up on my to-do list. I walked Kona in the morning before going to barre and then hung out in the afternoon and got some blog work done.

My grandparents (my mom's parents) and my grandfather (my dad's dad) all came into town Friday afternoon so it was great to see them and then have a family dinner of pizza from our favorite pizza place.

Saturday was the big day: graduation! Even though I shared a recap of graduation on the blog on Wednesday, I still want to share some of the behind-the-scenes details of the day!

I had my hair done Saturday morning and decided to stop at Starbucks for a vanilla latte before my appointment! I got my hair done later in the morning so I wound up getting ready before my appointment so that once I got back, all I would have to do is put on my dress.

I realized as I was looking at all of my pictures from graduation that my gown was zipped up in all of them so you couldn't even see my dress. I, of course, wore a Lilly Pulitzer dress that I bought back in March and since I purchased it so long ago, I was so excited to finally wear it. I snapped this picture before heading out the door and figured I would share as it let's y'all see my dress a bit better.

They had us arrive at the theater two hours early so we could practice, which wound up going fairly quickly. The theater we graduated in is typically used for, as you might expect, plays and other performances so they had dressing rooms, so we wound up all hanging out there before it was time to graduate.

After graduation ended, lots of pictures were taken and then my family and I went to dinner at the Capitol Grille in Uptown. The family I nanny for came to graduation and also came to dinner with us, which was so sweet of them. I've never been to the Capitol Grille but it was so delicious and was such a fun way to celebrate!

Sunday was another exciting day as I had a few grad parties to go to as well as my own grad party that day. Two of my best friends had their parties Sunday afternoon so I quickly stopped by at both of their parties before my own party started.

One of my best friends is going to USC so that's why I'm holding a "Go Cocks" sign- I don't actually agree with that statement #GoTigers #AllIn

I planned on sharing a post all about my grad party but decided to share them in this post as I only have the pictures I took before the party started of some of my decorations. Honestly, I was kind of too busy talking to everyone that came to take a lot of pictures during the party so I guess that speaks for living more in the moment!

I work in the afternoon on Mondays, which is nice as I'm able to sleep in a little longer than usual to start off my week. Pure Barre started a 40 classes in 60 days challenge at the start of the month and even though I don't think I'll be able to pull it off as I'll be out of town for too much of it, it's been a great motivation to take as many classes as possible. I've been going to the noon class, which is great as you still have your morning to be productive but still get a class in.

I nannied on Monday afternoon so I took one of the little boys I nanny to swim class and then back to their house.

I nannied in the morning on Tuesday and once I got home, I worked on some posts for the blog (as I kind of slacked off on that over the weekend haha. But you only graduate once, right?) and then went to a barre class.

After barre, I got dressed in real clothes (haha) and then went to go get my nails done. My last manicure was started to chip and since I had gel on my nails, I didn't want to mess up my nails by peeling them off haha!

Wednesday morning, I was up bright and early to go nanny and once I got home, I worked on a few things for the blog. I went to my favorite 12 PM Pure Barre class and then ran a few errands with my mom afterwards.

My younger sister graduated from middle school on Wednesday afternoon so the celebrations continued! It was so crazy to think that it was me graduating from middle school four years ago (funny how I thought I was "grown up" back then) and it was sweet to watch her and her classmates graduate.

After the ceremony, we headed over to a country club for a dinner that the parents host for all of the eighth graders and their families, which was a lot of fun. And about that mirror selfie, we took a similar one last year at my brother's graduation and my phone was freaking out on me (always running out of storage) so I guess I was not amused while this picture was being taken.

I worked in both the morning and afternoon on Thursday so I wound up staying at the family I nanny for's house all day, which was great as I was super productive. I worked on some stuff for sorority recruitment this fall, took my Spanish placement test, and then worked on some things for the blog.

shorts (also available in solid colors!) ⎢sandals

After work, I headed home to change before going to one of my best friend's grad party. I was kind of exhausted after waking up early that morning but her party was so fun (I mean they had an ice cream sundae bar...) and it was great catching up and hanging out with friends!

Last Week on Chic in Carolina:

Hope y'all have a great Monday and a productive start to your week!
