What’s in my Carry On for Hawaii

Thursday, June 30, 2016

Y'all, I leave tomorrow for Hawaii and I could not be more excited for the trip! This week has mainly been focused on getting all of my to do list accomplished before we leave and, of course, packing, which has proven to be a bit difficult. This is the longest plane flight I have ever been on since my family typically does road trips as most of our vacations are within a reasonable driving distance. You can't exactly drive across the continental United States and then over the Pacific Ocean to get to Hawaii so you kinda have to drive. I'm always an overpacked so deciding on what to bring and keeping my suitcase under the limit is hard for me haha!

I'm planning on sharing with y'all the clothes I packed next week (I pre-scheduled next week's posts so I don't have to bring my laptop) but for now, I'm going to share what's in my carry on for the flight! I'm bringing my Tory Burch bag (mine is in the tan color as you can see here!) as my purse for the trip as well as bringing a similarly sized tote to this one to hold some of the more random items that I wouldn't need the whole entire flight, such as a blanket

I'm planning on wearing sneakers of some sort on the plane but since it will be hot when we arrive, I'm throwing in my trusty white Jack Rogers- I've had these since my freshman year and still wear them all the time. During my flight to New York over Spring Break (read about that trip here, here, and here), I learned that head phones are a must so I'm planning on just listening to music or watching movies during the flight!

Blog Bloopers, Part 3

Wednesday, June 29, 2016

One thing I always try to do with y'all is to keep it real. Blogging and social media in general has a connotation of being fake as it's natural to only share the best aspects of our lives, which creates a "perfect" persona on social media pages. I'm totally guilty of it too and it doesn't mean I'm going to stop posting those pictures. What it does mean is that it's time for another edition of blog bloopers ;) (see the first edition here and the second edition here!)

Fourth of July Outfit Inspiration

Tuesday, June 28, 2016

I'm honestly in disbelief that there's less than a week till the Fourth of July! June has gone by so fast but I am very glad that there's still two full months until my senior year begins. The Fourth is one of those days were it's not only ok but encouraged to wear red, white, and blue all in one outfit but if your style is on the preppy/nautical side like yours truly this probably happens all the time anyways ;)

I always have a hard time picking an outfit for the Fourth because I own a plethora of white and blue but have a shortage of red in my closet. For me, my outfit for this holiday needs to be comfy but also cute and fun! Last year, I wore this outfit as I was in Alabama visiting family but this year I'm stumped on what to wear as we will be in Hawaii, any suggestions?

If you're in the same boat that I am, I put together a few different options that would all be perfect for the holiday!

If you have plans that are a bit more dressy for the Fourth like going to a country club for dinner and fireworks or you just want to dress cute for the occasion (totally relate on that!), this Vineyard Vines dress is perfect! Add a pair of navy Jack Rogers, fun Kendra Scott earrings, and a bag to hold the necessities and you're ready to go!

Definitely the most versatile of the three looks as this outfit can be worn for just about every Fourth of July outing from a casual barbecue at a friend's house to watching fireworks at a local park to hosting a small get together to hanging out with family. Plus, who can say no to fun, printed Lilly shorts?

If a beach, a lake, or a pool is in your picture for the Fourth of July, this is the outfit for you. This cute J. Crew bikini can be worn all summer long (not just for the Fourth) and the American flag towel adds a patriotic element to your ensemble, not to mention the limitless Instagram opportunities!

What are you wearing for the Fourth of July? Let me know in the comments!

Poolside Blue + Navy Stripes

Monday, June 27, 2016

Aren't the best pieces in your closet the ones you totally didn't expect to wind up purchasing? That's how I feel about this skirt. I was in Kate Spade over the weekend (read more about it in this Friday's post) and I found this gorgeous skirt on sale! Normally, I shy away from skirts that are more the midi style and/or high waisted. Since it was on sale and in a color combo I obviously adore (navy and white!), I decided to try it on! And I absolutely love it! The longer length makes it totally appropriate for me to wear to Church and I can wear it to school as well (a senior privilege at my school is that you can "dress up" instead of wearing your uniform).

This skirt can be worn with a variety of the tops that I own but I decided to pair it with this ocean blue Lilly top to give the look a nautical, beachy vibe!

My Chic Week: June 17-23

Friday, June 24, 2016

Happy Friday y'all! I can't believe today is the last Friday of June- where has the month gone? The countdown is on till my Hawaii trip (1 WEEK!) and I'm off today on a college trip- any guesses where I'm headed? As always, I'll be sharing that with y'all next Friday but for now, let's chat about this past week!

Friday morning was quite hectic as I woke up early to go to work, nannied, and then went to Pure Barre. After a kick-butt class at Pure Barre, I changed into my swimsuit at the studio and then met my family at the marina to go out on the lake. On the lake, we drove around for a bit and then anchored so that we could cool off in the water. We came back fairly early but after dinner, I was exhausted and went to bed so early.

Saturday morning, I was able to sleep in and enjoy a relaxed morning before going to Pure Barre. After class ended, I grabbed smoothies with a girl in my Pure Barre class who will be attending my school next year. Once I got home, I made myself lunch and showered. I magically convinced my brother to take outfit pictures for me so that's what y'all saw in Monday's post! My family had our neighbors over for dinner on Saturday night, which is always a lot of fun!

Sunday was Father's Day so we made my dad breakfast in bed to celebrate. For the past few years we have been in Kiawah for Father's Day so it was fun to give my dad breakfast in bed, which we did every year when my siblings and I were a bit younger.

The family I nanny for had their second child on Saturday, so I went over to their house for a few hours to watch their oldest for a few hours. After nannying, I came home for our Father's Day dinner.

I didn't work on Monday so I was able to sleep in and get some blog stuff done before going to my Pure Barre Class. Later in the afternoon, I met up with Renee of Gimme Glamour (we first met in this blog post) at a local coffee shop to catch up and take blog pictures. I always love talking to other bloggers as it's fun to share all the different aspects of blogging with people who understand it. We had such a fun time together and I'm looking forward to the next time we'll catch up!

Tuesday was a pretty simple day as I worked out in the morning, worked on blog stuff afterwards, and then nannied! Pretty Little Liars came back that night so that is always interesting to see!

It's been so weird this week because I have been able to sleep in fairly late but I keep on waking up around 7:30. So my days have been starting a bit earlier than expected. Wednesday morning was a bit hectic as I forgot I had an eyebrow wax appointment (so I was almost late to that, oops!) and then Pure Barre afterwards. I have been in a really good routine of working on various blog stuff after lunch so I did that before it was time to go to work.

On Thursday morning, I went to an earlier Pure Barre class so that way I could still get my workout in before my hair appointment later that morning. I absolutely love getting my haircut so that's always fun for me. After my appointment, I ate lunch, blogged, and then nannied (sense a trend here?).

On my Radar this week:

1. This outfit from Dorothy is so gorgeous!

2. For all of the Gossip Girl fans out there, this modern Gossip Girl Twitter account is my new favorite- it's hilarious!

3. I have a feeling I'll be trying out this recipe from Caroline's blog this weekend

4. My trip to Hawaii is exactly a week away (eek!) so the past few weeks I have been working out more often and avoiding most sweets to get ready. Halo Top Ice Cream has been my new favorite as it allows me to fulfill my sweet tooth but also save on the calories and sugar as a whole pint is 240 calories! I typically only eat half a cup of ice cream, which only has 60 calories! For chocolate ice cream that tastes like the real deal y'all!

5. I've been working on being more active on my Tumblr lately- so be sure you're following along!

Happy Friday!

Summer in Lilly (Collab with Renee of Gimme Glamour)

Thursday, June 23, 2016

Davidson, NC, USA
Happy Thursday y'all! Today, I will be sharing with y'all some fun pictures that are a part of a collab with my friend Renee of Gimme Glamour. We met up for coffee on Monday (which I'll talk about more in tomorrow's My Chic Week post) and took outfit pictures for each other. Since Monday was National Wear Your Lilly Day, Renee and I were both wearing our Lilly to celebrate so we thought it would be fun to turn these pictures into a collab for y'all! Be sure to check out her blog as well to see how she styled a fun Lilly shift dress!

Last week while I was at the mall (which you can read about here), I picked up these fun shorts in the re-release of one of Lilly's most famous prints, You Gotta Regatta. The pieces in the print have sold out fairly quickly, so if you don't see your size online be sure to check the website of any of the signature stores or give your local Lilly a call! You Gotta Regatta is quintessential Lilly: bright, colorful, summery, and fun! I have a feeling these shorts will be on repeat all summer long!
