My Chic Week: August 11-17

Happy Friday y'all! Today is the big day: MOVE IN DAY! As y'all read this, I will be driving down to Clemson with my family to move into my freshman dorm room. We have sorority recruitment orientation tonight and then recruitment kicks off tomorrow so it will be a busy first few weeks at Clemson.

I've scheduled lots of fun posts for y'all for the next few weeks so be sure to check back in each morning at 8 AM. For a more up-to-date look on what I'm up to, be sure to follow me on Instagram and Twitter- I'm planning on showing y'all how dorm decorating is going and then snaps from recruitment!

Last Friday started off on the early side as I woke up early to go to a 6 AM Pure Barre class. I went to the 6 AM class once or twice a week during the school year but haven't been in forever so I went on Friday to earn a bingo stamp as my studio is currently doing Pure Barre Bingo.

Once I got home, my mom and I dropped my car off to get my oil change done and then we had a couple of errands to run, including getting a pair of cowboy boots!

I met up with my friend Amy of Pastel N Pink in the afternoon at Amelie's so we could both get some blog work done and catch up. For all of my non-Charlotte readers, Amelie's is the best French bakery in town and has the most delicious Salted Caramel Brownies (and macarons). It was so fun to catch up with Amy before moving to Clemson and pairing it with dessert made it even better.

Saturday morning, I went to an earlier than usual Pure Barre class, which was a great way to kick off my Saturday on a productive note. Saturday, I did a lot of packing and working on blog posts to pre-schedule for the next few weeks for y'all- nothing too crazy.

Saturday night, my family and I went over to our family friends's house (they used to live next-door to us!) for dinner, which was a lot of fun. It was great to see them before move-in day and they were so sweet and got me a Nothing Bundt Cake to celebrate.

Sunday morning, I went to another barre class and I then spent the rest of the day packing and getting things ready for move-in.

My family and I went out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants Sunday night, which was so fun. The dress I wore is actually my first Lilly dress so it's not available anymore but my Jacks are! Sunday night was great as my family and I were spend time together, which I know will be harder since I'm now at college.

Monday morning, I was up bright and early to nanny and then I met up with one of my best friends for a little bit. I was texting her hoping we could catch up before we both moved in (she moved in Wednesday) so it worked out that we had a hour or so to catch up on Monday.

I then went to Pure Barre, ran home for lunch, ran an errands, and made some cookies (which I documented on my Instagram stories) before going to nanny again.

Tuesday morning, I nannied for a few hours before going to the mall as I had a few errands to run there. I, of course, couldn't stay away from the Lilly store and had to come home with something right?

I went to a few other stores and ate lunch before going back to the family I nanny for's house for a bit.

I stayed for dinner with the family I nanny for on Tuesday, which was so sweet as they picked up barbecue (my fav!) and also got me the cutest cake and some sweet gifts! I'm so lucky to work for such a great family and can't wait to spend time with the boys I nanny next summer!

I only worked in the morning on Wednesday so I had the rest of the day to pack and get stuff done. I went to barre at noon, which was fun as it was my last time taking class with the owner of my studio! She insisted on snapping a few pics so I had to share one with you.

I did a bunch of packing on Wednesday and also had a doctor's appointment in the afternoon. After my appointment, I went to get my nails done for sorority recruitment.

Thursday was my last day at home and was also my last day of my nannying job, which was a tough morning haha. I've been working with the same family for nearly two years and it was so hard leaving  the sweet little boys I nanny. Thankfully, I'll be back next summer and we went to Duck Donuts as a last hurrah!

The rest of the day flew by as I went to barre, finished packing, worked on blog posts, and one of my best friends stopped by to say goodbye!

On my Radar:

1. Move In & Recruitment! As I mentioned before, I move in today and then begin sorority recruitment tomorrow morning (bright and early!). I know it will be a busy few weeks but I'm so excited, any last minute tips?

2. Love this post from The Everygirl about the 5 Habits of Confident Women

3. Jack Rogers just released some new flats that are perfect for fall- how cute is this navy pair?

4. As an incoming freshman, I found this post by my friend Renee really helpful

5. While at the mall earlier this week, I tried on this Lilly set and loved it! It's a bit out of my style comfort zone but I think it will be so cute from Clemson gameday!

On the blog this week:

Happy Friday!

Orange & White + Talking About Lipstick

Shortly after deciding Clemson was the school for me, I realized that I had zero orange items in my closet. Actually, I was telling my college counselor that I decided on Clemson and she goes, "Where's your orange". Since then, I have slowly been adding more and more orange (and purple!) items in my wardrobe so I have lots of options for gameday and everyday life at Clemson.

I've been following Frannie for years and she shared this top in an outfit that was so cute a few months back. I realized that this top was on sale a few weeks later and decided to go ahead and get it! The peplum is so adorable and it is a great material as well. I've shared this skirt on the blog before but I love how it looks with this top and can't wait to wear it for gameday.

I also thought that this outfit was a perfect one to share since move-in day is tomorrow!!

I also wanted to take a minute to talk about something fun and different about this post: my lipstick! I am typically not a big lipstick gal (I love love love this lip treatment by Fresh Cosmetics) but when Sadie reached out to me about trying Lipsense, I knew I had to try it.

She was so sweet and sent me two lip sticks and well as a lip gloss and lipstick remover, which I have been loving so far. The application process is pretty simple and the color holds up so well- I tried it out for this blog shoot it held up during three outfit changes and walking around in the North Carolina heat.

I really liked trying out these products and know that I will continue to use them so thank you so much Sadie (y'all need to check out her Facebook group)!

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale Tips + Tricks

After Monday's post talking all about the fit of items that may be in the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale, I am so excited for the sale. If it follows the same date as previous years, it could be this Monday or next Thursday (the sales typically start on Monday mornings but the winter one this year started on a Thursday). Obviously, I don't work for Lilly or anything so don't take this as 100% true but those are two possibilities!

I've been shopping for several years now and I definitely feel like I've "gotten the hang of them". It is just a sale but people tend to go crazy when there's Lilly on sale for amazing prices so it doesn't hurt to be prepared!

Be patient
The website will crash. It happens every year and being patient about it is all you can really do. There's no reason to freak out as you will get your Lilly!

Use multiple devices
When waiting to enter the sale through the virtual line, I always use multiple devices to see which one will get me in first. Using both your phone and a laptop (and maybe a tablet) maximizes the possibility of getting in faster. I would also try using the Lilly Pulitzer app (and logging in beforehand!) as one year, the app didn't have the line and the website did.

Make a list of items you want
I used to be team "no list" as I thought it would help me not be upset about not getting an item I wanted. Having a list helps you be more efficient while shopping the sale as you'll head straight to the items you want rather than looking at item after item and deliberating over what you want to buy (this also gives those items more time to sell out).

Don't refresh your browser while in the virtual line
Once the sale starts at 8 AM, you will probably be placed into the virtual line. This will show that you're behind thousands of people in line but whatever you do, don't refresh. I know it feels like refreshing the page will help you get through the line but the opposite is true as it will place you at the end of the line.

Think practically
That dress may be super cute and the price may be amazing but if you'll never wear it, the price isn't worth it. Think about where and when you'll wear the item before purchasing. If you're unsure of the item, remember you can't return it later.

Know your sizes beforehand
As I mentioned before, the After Party Sale is final sale, meaning you cannot return your purchases. I recommend going to a local Lilly store before the sales begins to try a bunch of different pieces to see what size you will be. If you're unable to get to a store, check out my Lilly Pulitzer fit guide!

Check out as soon as your items are in your cart
Once you add an item to your cart, it is not reserved in your cart, which means that you should head to the check out ASAP. Doing this makes sure that you get the items you want and avoid any unnecessary frustration.

If you can, shop in-store
Last year I was able to shop in the Charlotte Lilly store for the sale (which y'all can read about here) and it was so much fun. They may not have as many older items (so not as many resort items for this sale) but you can try on items and return them if they don't work out for you. If there's a particular item you're after, try calling a Lilly store to see if they have it in stock.

Remember that it's just a sale
The Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale is a preppy girl's Christmas but it is still just a sale. If you're running on a tight budget this money or not loving anything in the sale, don't buy anything just because there's a sale. There will be more in the future so don't worry about it!

Shades of Pink

If I were to think of my ideal outfit, it would probably include a Lilly dress with some cute shoes. My high school had a business casual dress code for seniors so last year, I was able to wear a lot of my favorite Lilly pieces to school (I shared two different posts that had a week of outfits, which you can read here and here). I know I won't wear my fancy pieces as much going into college but I love Lilly's more casual dresses for everyday wear.

I bought this dress two years ago and I still wear it all the time: I'll wear it now with a necklace and sandals and wear it later with riding boots and a cozy cashmere cardigan. Unfortunately, this exact dress isn't available anymore but Lilly still carries lots of different prints in this style!

I obviously love the color pink too and love how the different shades of pink complement each other without being too Barbie doll threw up on your outfit. I bought these Tory Burch sandals for a steal around last Christmas (but I love my nude Millers too!) and this Kendra Scott necklace is a go-to in my wardrobe as well.

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Fit Guide

One of the best sales of the year is just around the corner: the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale. If you haven't heard of it before, Lilly Pulitzer only has two online sales a year: one shortly after New Year's and another towards the end of August. This is the perfect time to snag lots of cute Lilly pieces for a fraction of the original cost.

Even though Lilly hasn't formally announced the date of the sale, it should be very soon based off of the date of previous sales. Last year, I shared a fit guide of lots of Lilly pieces before the sale began and it's my most popular blog post to this day. I decided to share an updated version to help y'all prepare for the sale as all items are final sale, meaning you can't return or exchange items once you purchase them (so it's important that you choose the right size!).

As a reference, I am typically a size four or a size small. When shopping at Lilly, I'll typically grab a size 4/small first and if an item is too tight, I'll grab a 6 or if it's large, I'll try a size 2. I'm also 5'7, which may help in seeing how long/short an item may be.

Another side note, I do not own every single item pictured (that would be a lot of Lilly but a girl can dream). This is one of my success tips for the sale (which I'll be sharing on Wednesday) but whenever I visit my local store, I'll try every piece I like on to see how it fits to prepare for the sale. Some of the items I have styled on the blog in recent months, so the blog post will be linked beside the item!

Item Name: Stella Shift
Size Worn: 4
Fit Review: TTS. I love this shift as it's comfortable and loose yet super cute. It is a bit short so I would keep that in mind but I'm hoping this one makes its way into my cart during the sale ;)

Item Name: Simona Dress
Size Worn: 4
Fit Review: TTS. This dress is super flattering and I love the lace detailing. I decided not to get it for graduation as I wanted something a bit more conservative for such a formal event.

Item Name: Mila Shift Dress (styled here)
Size Worn: 6
Fit Review: Runs extremely small! I am typically a 4 in Lilly shifts and the 4 in the Mila wouldn't even zip so I went with the 6. This dress is also very short so keep that in mind if you're on the taller side. I would definitely recommend going one to two sizes up for the best fit.

Item Name: Kya Beach Short
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS but on the tighter side: I loved the ruffle detail but they were a bit too short and form fitting for my liking.

Item Name: Suzette Shift
Size Worn: 4
Fit Review: TTS. I liked this one but preferred the detailing on the Largo Shift and wasn't a fan of the neckline.

Item Name: Arden Shift
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. This dress is a stretchy material and is super flattering on.

Item Name: Jane Shift Dress (styled here)
Size Worn: 4
Fit Review: TTS. This dress is one of my favorites from the past few seasons as it's super flattering and has the shape of a classic shift dress but is a bit looser, making it more comfortable to wear.

Item Name: Emilia Wrap Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS but it is extremely low cut. The dress was super cute and flattering but it was too low cut for me to wear to school last year.

Item Name: Largo Shift Dress
Size Worn: 6
Fit Review: TTS. I tried on both the 4 and the 6 and decided to go with the 6 as it was more flattering around my stomach and gave me more room to move around in (which I wanted as I wore it for graduation).

Item Name: Isabeau Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. This dress is super cute on and I love the hemline!

Item Name: Eliot Shift
Size Worn: 4
Fit Review: TTS. After trying it on, I realized I didn't like the neckline on me as it looked a bit boxy.

Item Name: Hampton Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. I tried on my usual small and it fit perfectly- love the detail on the hemline too!

Item Name: Celyn Romper
Size Worn: 4
Fit Review: TTS but on the shorter side. I really liked it but the length wasn't flattering on me. Another thing to note is the color is a bit darker than it appears online.

Item Name: Katia Short
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS but more tight-fitting. I was expecting them to be looser based off of the pictures online and the elastic waist but they were a bit more form fitting. Size up if you want them to be looser.

Item Name: Luxletic Cropped Weekender Pants
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. These leggings fit me perfectly and I wear them all the time for barre class and casual wear. I always get so many compliments whenever I wear them, which is another plus!

Item Name: Buttercup Scalloped Shorts (styled here and here)
Size Worn: 6
Fit Review: I sized up in these for a looser fit although the 4 still fits perfectly. The sizing in the Buttercup is fairly consistent across each print or solid color.

Item Name: Margot Swing Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. This dress is so cute and is a great dress for casual wear as it's loose fitting!

Item Name: Seagate Cover-Up
Size Worn: Small/Medium
Fit Review: TTS. I'm typically a small and went with the small/medium rather than x-small/small as I'm on the taller side (I'm 5'7). It's still pretty short but it looks cute for the pool or the beach.

Item Name: Harper Shift Dress (styled here)
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. This dress has been a favorite of mine this season and it's so flattering on. It has the classic shape of a shift dress but is a stretchy material that is perfect for casual wear (or brunch!).

Item Name: Erin Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS but runs tight in the shoulders. I liked that this one was a bit longer too!

Item Name: Jessica Short Sleeve Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. This dress is super cute on and I liked that it is a bit longer too! One thing to note is that the sleeves are bit tight.

Item Name: Iveigh Shift Dress
Size Worn: 6
Fit Review: Runs small. I'm a size 4 usually and the 6 didn't fit me. I've decided that halter style dresses don't look good on me, which leads to why this one doesn't fit well but the print is super cute.

Item Name:  Melle Trapeze Dress (styled here)
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS but on the larger side. I bought the small so it would be comfortable but I'm sure the X-Small would of fit as well.

Item Name: Colette Skort (styled here)
Size Worn: 6
Fit Review: Runs a tad small. The 4 fit me but I decided to size up for a more comfortable fit.

Item Name: Sain Off-the-Shoulder Top
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. It is a bit loose fitting but it isn't intended to be skin tight. I love that the sleeves are a bit longer and that it has a little strap to keep it on your shoulders!

Item Name: Gigi V-Neck Tank Top
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. It is meant to be a bit looser (the XS a bit too small on me) but it's a great staple tee for the summer months.

Item Name: Courtney Shift Dress
Size Worn: 6
Fit Review: On the smaller size. I tried on the 6 and it was still a bit tighter than what I usually like. The back is so cute though!

Item Name: Luxletic Brodie T-Shirt
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS on the looser side. I wear this top for barre all the time with leggings and it is so cute and comfortable!

Item Name: Luxletic Run Around Short
Size Worn: Medium
Fit Review: Size up! I sized up in these so they would be more comfortable and a tad bit longer. The size small fit fine but I knew the medium's would give me an extra bit of length.

Item Name: Meredith Short Sleeve Tee (styled here)
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. This tee does fit on the looser side but I stuck to my usual size for a more oversized fit.

Item Name: Pearl Shift Dress
Size Worn: 4
Fit Review: On the smaller side. Like I said before, halter dresses are not for me so I wasn't the biggest fan of the fit although I love the print.

Item Name: Lela Silk Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: Runs small. Honestly the fit of this one is really weird on me: the straps and chest are on the larger side but the waist and hips are really tight and unflattering. I've seen this dress styled on other bloggers and it looks adorable but it just doesn't work on me (I've tried it on in different prints in hopes of it fitting!).

Item Name: Abena Top (styled here)
Size: Small
Fit Guide: TTS. This may be my favorite Lilly top of the season as it's flattering and flowy. The fabric is so comfortable and it's perfect for any occasion.

Item Name: Kelly Pant
Size: 4
Fit Guide: TTS. My pair of Kelly Pants are from last summer but they release them in new prints each year. They fit perfectly and work for both workwear and casual wear.
Item Name: Rylie Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS but on the smaller side. This dress is intended to be worn to the beach for sun protection but I thought that it was super tight/unflattering on me.

Item Name: Short Sleeve Marlowe Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS but more on the form fitting side. I have a Marlowe dress (with sleeves) from a few seasons ago and I thought this fit a bit tighter than the dress with sleeves.

Item Name: Gabby Shift Dress
Size Worn: 6
Fit Review: TTS. I've been sizing up shifts this season and this one fit well. Love this style of shift dresses!

Item Name: Ryder Shift Dress
Size Worn: 6
Fit Review: TTS. This beauty was on sale and only had a size 6 left but it fit well!

Item Name: El Bravo Way Coverup Tunic
Size Worn: Small/Medium
Fit Review: TTS. Like the other coverup that I mentioned before, this one fits perfectly but still is on the shorter side due to my height. I choose the S/M rather than the XS/S for a more comfortable fit that is better for the beach.

Item Name: Adara Shift Dress
Size Worn: 4
Fit Review: TTS. This shift is extremely flattering and fits perfectly! I will definitely be looking for this one during the sale

Item Name: Emmeline One Shoulder Dress
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. This dress doesn't look super amazing on the hanger but it is so cute on! It's loose and a light material, making it perfect for game day in the warmer months.

Item Name: Marigold Skort
Size Worn: 6
Fit Review: Runs small. I tried on both the 4 and the 6 and I couldn't zip the 4. The 6 fit better but was still uncomfortable.

Item Name: Sea View Button-Down Top
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: On the larger side. I thought that top was a bit baggy compared to a regular button down and the fabric is fairly sheer too.

Item Name: Madison Skort
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. This skort is made of stretchy material and has an elastic waistband, which makes it super comfortable to wear. It is also a bit longer and I will be wearing it for sorority recruitment later this week.

Item Name: Tyne Top
Size Worn: Small
Fit Review: TTS. This top is on the looser side but it is supposed to have a looser fit. It is extremely flattering on!

Item Name: Carlotta Stretch Shift Dress
Size Worn: 4
Fit Review: Runs extremely large. I loved the pattern and the shape of this dress but it was extremely large and baggy on me. A 2 or even a 0 would have fit better but this dress was so unflattering on me, I decided not to try those sizes on.
