Whenever we are on vacation, my family and I always find ourselves focusing our days around eating and enjoying delicious food. I eat fairly healthy in my normal day-to-day life but I’m a bit more carefree when on vacation (pretty normal I would say haha).
After a long vacation, I’m typically ready to get back into eating healthy and working out more consistently. After my two-week long trip to New York, which was full of yummy food and lots of dessert (who can say no to soft serve ice cream?), I was definitely ready to detox a little bit and these are a few things that got me “back on track” and none of them are too crazy either!
Drink more Water
I think it's safe to say that we all know how important it is to drink water. I try to drink half my body weight in fluid ounces each day (so if you weigh 150 pounds, drink 75 fl. oz or if you weigh 120 pounds, drink 60 fl oz.). I fill up a big water bottle or tumbler each morning and make sure to bring it everywhere with me! If you're not a big water drinker, try adding a straw or some lemon juice as the straw will make you drink it faster and the lemon juice will add some flavor!
Amp up your Workouts
This is a perfect time to kick your workouts up a notch, whether that means going out of your comfort zone and trying a new workout class, going for a run 4 times a week instead of 3, or using the 3 pound weights in your barre class instead of two pound ones. Little changes can make a big difference!

No Dessert during the Week
A bit of a confession here for y'all: I love my desserts (may not be a confession if you read last week's My Chic Week post haha!). In my opinion, there's nothing better than a bowl of ice cream after dinner but, of course, that isn't always the healthiest choice haha! Balance is so important as obviously you can't cut out sweets forever so I focus on no desserts during the week and having a treat or two on the weekends!
10,000 Steps every single Day
I bought my Fitbit back in February and it honestly helps so much in tracking everything health and fitness related. The primary feature of Fitbits is tracking your steps with the goal of reaching 10,000 steps per day. For me, this sometimes is a high number of steps to reach but making the extra effort to reach it each day, whether that means parking farther away in the Target parking lot or walking instead of driving, really helps make sure that you are being active each day.
Detox Tea
After vacations or just when we haven't been eating as healthy as usual (like the holidays), my mom and I like to do Jillian Michaels's detox tea. Obviously detox tea isn't a substitute for eating healthy but it really helps you drink more water every day.

Watch Serving Sizes
Have you ever opened a bag of chips and eaten exactly the serving size of 10 chips? Neither have I! Serving sizes are really important as even though the food you're eating may be healthy, you may be eating too much of it. A trick for this is to pre-package a bunch of snacks (whether it's chips or pretzels or whatever) and put only the serving in a plastic bag.

Get enough Sleep
During vacation, I tend to take advantage of sleeping in every day but it's also important to continue to get enough sleep even when you're not on vacation. Depending on what time you wake up, make your "bed time" and stick to it as it will help you be more alert during the day as well!
How do you get back on track after vacation? Let me know in the comments!
These are such good tips! I'm currently at the beach & I know I'll need these tips when I get back home!
