Ways to Brighten Up Your Day

Monday, February 8, 2016

I don't know about y'all but after Christmas and a few snow days, I am officially over winter. It has gotten too cold for my liking (and I don't even live where it gets extremely cold!) and I am just so excited for the spring and summer days that are going to be here hopefully soon!

In the mean time, I have gathered up some of my favorite ways to brighten up cold winter days. And, in addition to these tips, spring should be here very soon and hopefully before we know it!

Indulge in some online shopping (even if you don't buy anything)

Drink a cup of coffee or hot chocolate

Take a walk

Text a friend

Get some pin-spiration (be sure to follow me here)

Watch an episode of your favorite show on Netflix

Look up cute pictures of puppies on Pinterest (especially golden retrievers!)

Change into comfy clothes that are fresh out of the laundry

Buy fresh flowers

How do you brighten your day? Let me know in the comments!

My Chic Week: January 29- February 4

Friday, February 5, 2016

What a week! It was definitely a long one but somehow it has flown by (like to the point to where I feel like Monday was two days ago, definitely not a bad thing!). Anyways, I am super excited for a fun weekend that hopefully isn't full of too much homework and I can't wait to share that with y'all next Friday! For now, let's catch up on this past week and what has been on my radar!

Backing up to last Friday (January 29, for reference as I can't believe January was only a few days ago!), my grandparents arrived to spend the week with my siblings and I as my parents have been in Hawaii for a work trip this past week (lucky ducks)! As much as I wish I was currently in Hawaii, it has been so fun having my grandparents here for the week!

Saturday morning, my grandmother and I decided to go out to brunch at one of my favorite restaurants for breakfast/brunch! I haven't been in the longest time (probably not since the summer before my sophomore year) but it was so good, I mean who doesn't love pancakes covered in powdered sugar?

After brunch, I attempted (key word attempted) to get some homework done on Saturday afternoon. I also babysat for two of my favorite kiddos that night, which is always a lot of fun!

On Sunday morning, I slept in and made myself some breakfast before doing all of my homework and studying for a key dates quiz for APUSH. Unfortunately, that's pretty much what I did all day so I don't have a lot to report on for y'all!

Monday started off a very busy school week for me! The new-ness of the semester has definitely worn off in all of my classes so this week was full of assignments, a video project, an extremely hard Pre Calculus test, and a bunch of quizzes throughout the week! The first week of the month is always a busy one for me meetings-wise as I had quite a few this week during lunch.

As y'all probably know, I teach a religious education class at my Church on Monday nights and I cannot tell you how much better your day is after spending a hour and a half with a group of first graders. The snow from a few weekends ago is long gone and a few days this week it has passed 70 degrees, which definitely calls for borrowing a bright Lilly top from my mom's closet. Hopefully, this warm weather will stick around because I don't think I can handle any more cold (or North Carolina's version of cold)!

On my radar this week:

1. An earlier spring this year! The groundhog did not see his shadow earlier this week, which means that, hopefully, we will be having an early spring this year! Which means Lilly shifts and iced coffee without frozen hands are right around the corner ;)

2. Bailey is behind one of my favorite Instagram accounts and I am so excited she started her blog, Navy or Nothing, this week!

3. Lent! Ash Wednesday is right around the corner and I am pretty sure that I will be giving up sweets and bread! I give up sweets every year but bread is a new one that will definitely be very hard! If you participate in Lent, what are you giving up/doing for Lent?

4. Riley's birthday brunch is way too cute!

5. I started on one of my 101 in 1001 goals this past week: reading 20 new, just-for-fun books (please tell me I'm not the only one who reads the same 4 books over and over). I started (and finished) The Royal We this week and I love it! It's a light, fun read with a great storyline. Be sure to leave any book recommendations in the comments or email me (chicincarolina@gmail.com) as I would love to hear your favorites!

Also, be sure to check out my posts from this past week:

Fun Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day

Thursday, February 4, 2016

Valentine Day is just around the corner bringing with it everything pink, red, and covered in hearts to your local grocery store and Target (they actually brought it out after Christmas here, along with Easter candy!)! Valentine's Day is synonymous with couples but even if you're single, there is plenty of ways to celebrate and have fun on the holiday!

Bake
I personally love any occasion to bake and why not bake something off of your Valentine's Day Pinterest board (follow mine here)?

Movie Marathon
Movie marathons are the perfect way to have a relaxed night! Choose a theme (romantic comedies, disney, etc.) and watch away! This is perfect whether you're by yourself or with a group of friends!

Treat Yourself
Those shoes you have been eyeing forever? Go ahead! Or maybe just to have a relaxed night in with Gossip Girl? Treat yourself, whether it be an afternoon of retail therapy (my favorite) or just relaxing!

Have a Spa Night
Going off of the treat yourself idea, have a spa night for you or with friends! Paint your nails and do a face mask, enjoying the pampering!

Hot Chocolate Party
Hot Chocolate is perfect for any occasion! Grab a cute mug, fill your cup up with the chocolatey goodness, and maybe add in a few Valentine's Day marshmallows!

Buy the Valentine's Day Candy at the store
Treat yourself (or your friends and family) to some of that cutely packaged, candy and chocolate you see each time your at the store!

What will you be doing to celebrate Valentine's Day? Let me know in the comments!

My Favorite Decor Websites

Wednesday, February 3, 2016

For all of you who don't know, I am currently in the middle of redesigning my bedroom (be sure to check out the inspiration for the re-do here!). It's been quite the process but I love how things are coming together so far! I have just a few more things that need to be done (aka looking into throw pillows and then a gallery wall) then I can't wait to share it with y'all!

Over the past few months, one of my favorite things to do is look at online websites for home decor! I have linked all of my favorite websites for everything from knick knacks, furniture, bedding, prints, throw pillows, picture frames, and more!

January Favorites

Tuesday, February 2, 2016

I honestly cannot believe that it is already February! Seems just like yesterday it was New Year's and Christmas Break! For all of y'all who are new to Chic in Carolina (welcome!), at the beginning of each month, I share my favorite products and things from the month before (see all of my favorites posts here!).

Beauty Blender- My aunt got me a gift card to Sephora for Christmas so after reading so many raving reviews, I picked up the Beauty Blender. Let me tell y'all the hype does not disappoint! It blends your makeup perfectly and is definitely worth the price tag!

Oikos Salted Caramel Greek Frozen Yogurt- Oh my gosh, this frozen yogurt is so good! Honestly, it tastes just like regular ice cream and you get a fairly large portion for the calorie count! I also love the coffee flavor!

Longchamp- I bought this with my Christmas money and I am obsessed! It holds so much stuff (so much that it's sometimes hard to find the item you need) yet is so light!

Starbucks Peppermint Mocha Instant Coffee- Another Christmas gift (watch my Christmas haul here) but I am obsessed with Peppermint Mochas from Starbucks around Christmastime and this is the perfect way to drink it during a busy morning without actually going to Starbucks!

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores- My sister actually received this for Christmas but since she doesn't really like face masks, she gave it to me. This mask works really well and in addition to removing acne, it also brightens your skin!

Crest 3D White Whitestripes “Shimmer White”- I picked these whitening strips up at Target earlier this month as I have always been interested in trying them and so far I like them. I haven't been using them everyday as the box suggests but I still have seen a noticeable change in the whiteness of my teeth.

Headboard- I ordered this headboard for my room redesign (see the inspiration for that here!) and it ties my room together perfectly! It looks amazing in my room and is at a really great price too!

Lilly Cashmere Cardigan- My mom picked this cashmere cardigan for me during the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale and I love it! It is so comfy and soft! I would definitely give your local Lilly store a call to see if they have it on sale (be sure to size down if you wind up purchasing)

Kate Spade “all in good taste”- I bought this with a gift card I got for Christmas and it is definitely the cutest! All in good taste offers party tips, etiquette, home advice, and more not to mention it looks adorable on your bookshelf!

Bean Boots- It snowed here in NC a few weeks ago and it's pretty safe to say I do not have any snow gear. Bean boots are perfect for the snow as they keep your feet dry and warm (especially with fuzzy socks!).

Ralph Lauren White Oxford- My mom and I stopped at the Ralph Lauren outlet after my tour of Clemson (read about that here) and I bought this oxford! I have been obsessed with it for such a long time and it is such a classic piece that can be paired with everything!

Sonia Kashuk Take Cover Concealing Stick- I was really tired of the way my old concealer applied so I picked this one up! It is a really great price and covers really well too!

Essie Saltwater Happy- I love this nail polish! I bought it over the summer and kind of forgot about it until now, it's the perfect shade of Carolina blue and brings a bit of spring to my nails!

J. Crew T-shirt- I bought a really similar shirt to the one picture at the J. Crew Warehouse Sale last fall (read about it here) and I have been loving it lately! It's so comfy and perfect for a casual day!

Natural Bliss Salted Caramel Coffee Creamer- Another coffee pick but this creamer is so yummy and it's all natural too!
