Hawaii Days 1 & 2

Monday, July 11, 2016

Happy Monday y'all! I'm so excited to be back to writing new posts for y'all- I took last week "off" and pre-scheduled all of my posts since I was in Hawaii.

Last week, my family and I traveled to Hawaii for our big vacation of the summer and it was a blast! It was my first time there and we just had the best time. Since we did so many fun things and I took so many pictures (not even kidding, I think I have over 250 from just this trip on my phone right now), I wanted to share with y'all a day by day recap instead of including it in a My Chic Week post like I typically would.

Our flight was pretty early Friday morning (July 1), resulting in an early wake up to get to the airport on time. Once we got there, we went through security and then grabbed breakfast at Starbucks before getting on the plane.

Since Hawaii is such a long ways from Charlotte (10 hours of flying to be exact), we had a layover in Phoenix on the way out. In Phoenix, we ate some burgers and fries even though it was 10 am there before getting on another flight.

We landed in Hawaii around 2 PM local time, which meant we had time to hang out by the pool in the afternoon. We went up to our rooms, unpacked, and then headed to the pool and the beach. We spent the rest of the night at the pool and at the beach and ate dinner at the restaurant that serves food by the pool!

The Kona side of the Big Island is super rocky and looks like this- totally surprised me once I got off the plane

The lobby of our hotel- the ponds had turtles in them!

The first few mornings in Hawaii were a bit rough as you typically wake up very early since you're not adjusted to the time change yet. Luckily, I managed to sleep in till 7:30 (haha that's sleeping in?) though. On our first day there, my dad was dying to go to a local restaurant called Hawaiian Style. My parents typically go to Hawaii each February for a work function and this place is my dad's favorite! They have what's called a Loco Moco not to mention the biggest pancakes ever! I had the coconut pudding pancakes, which were so good! I would highly recommend if you're on the Big Island!

The view from my hotel room!

After breakfast, we headed back to the resort and my mom, sister, and I went for a walk around the property. Our hotel had the coolest path that wandered through the beach and led up to these big rocks looking over the ocean.

After our walk, we spent the rest of the morning and afternoon at the pool, which I will never complain about!

That night, we went over to the neighboring hotel, the Fairmont Orchid, for a Luau. Despite a bit of a snafu regarding our tickets, the event was really fun and it was so interesting to learn a bit more about the native people of Hawaii!

Stay tuned for an outfit from my trip tomorrow and the recap of Days 3 and 4 on Thursday!
