My Chic Week: May 13-19
Monday, May 23, 2016
It's Monday and I'm posting a My Chic Week post, which you probably know usually go up every Friday. Since I was out of town last week for a college trip, I wasn't on my computer so I wasn't updating this post for y'all. Luckily my blog posts should be getting more regular in the next few weeks as this week is the final week before exams and then it will be summer! I'm so excited to have more time to create some more fun content for y'all so if you have any blog post requests, please leave them in the comments or email them to me, my email is chicincarolina@gmail.com.
Last Friday was a pretty hectic day as we had shortened classes before yearbook signing in the afternoon. I had a quiz and a few tests so I'm glad those are over! After school, I nannied as usual but I decided it would be super fun to go and get some frozen yogurt with the little boy I nanny, which was the perfect way to kick off the weekend! After nannying, I had a pretty relaxing night at home, which is always nice after a long week of school!
Saturday was fairly boring as I pretty much spent the day studying. I did get a haircut in the afternoon, which I always love!
Sunday morning, I slept in till a decent time, worked on a Pre Calc assignment, ate, and worked on the Pre Calc assignment some more before actually getting ready for the day. The rest of the day was much more fun as I had a blogging meetup to go to. Annaliese, Amy, Morgan, Cara, Sarah, and I went to the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont, North Carolina, which was so much fun!
Monday was a fairly normal day but was pretty relaxed since it was my only day of school last week. After school, I spent the afternoon packing and then scheduling some blog posts for y'all!
Tuesday morning, I was up bright and early to head to school to begin our annual college trip. My freshman year we toured a bunch of schools here in North Carolina, last year we toured schools in Maryland and Virginia (which you can read about in this post), and this year we toured schools in South Carolina and Georgia. It is crazy to think that this was our last trip and this time next year I'll know what college I'll be going to!
We toured the University of South Carolina first but we attended a information session and then walked over to the Moe's on campus for lunch so it wasn't a full tour. We then drove down to Savannah where we toured the Savannah College of Art and Design.
After touring the cathedral there, we checked into our hotel and then headed out for dinner. My friends and I ate at this yummy cafe and then grabbed ice cream at a candy shop afterwards.
On Wednesday, we had to wake up fairly early so we could drive up to Charleston for the second part of the trip. We toured the Citadel in the morning, which was really interesting to see as it is a military school even though I am not interested in attending military school. After our tour, we had lunch on their campus before driving over to the College of Charleston.
Next up was a tour of the College of Charleston, which is such a pretty campus!
We then had a driving tour of Charleston and we were able to walk around at the Battery. The Battery has some amazing houses that are definitely #lifegoals.
After that tour, we were dropped off at the Charleston Markets and were on our own for dinner. I wound up eating at Southend Brewery and Smokehouse with some friends and I had the yummiest barbecue sandwich. We then walked around Charleston for a bit before stopping for gelato at Belgian Gelato and eating that at the Waterfront Park.
We then headed back to the hotel and hung out at the park across the street for a bit before heading to bed.
Thursday morning, I grabbed breakfast at the coffee shop in our hotel before getting on the bus for that day's activities. We started our day off at Magnolia Plantation, which was so pretty! They have a petting zoo, which had peacocks oddly enough, and then we went on a tour. Afterwards, we were allowed to explored the plantation, which was a lot of fun!
After Magnolia Plantation, we stopped for lunch at Jason's Deli and then toured the U.S.S. Yorktown. It was surprisingly very fun to tour and was cool to walk around!
We then drove back into Charleston and were allowed to explore on our own for a while and to go to eat dinner. My friends and I went to a restaurant called Toast, which was amazing. I had the Sweet Tea Fried Chicken, which was surprisingly good- I mean it had sweet tea on it which is one of my favorite things! After dinner, we grabbed gelato (again) and then headed to the Waterfront Park again before it was time to head back to the hotel.
We had a bit of free time once we got back to the hotel so I spent my night walking around on the docks with friends and then playing a game where you choose a jelly bean that was either a good flavor or something disgusting, which was gross as you may guess but was pretty fun!

Afterwards we drove over to Southpark (after I took the most bizarre way to get there) to have dinner at Maggiano's, which was so good! It was safe to say that none of us left hungry (I mean look at that slice of cake- Annaliese, Cara, and I split it and there was still leftovers!).

Let's go to the Beach!
Thursday, May 19, 2016
There's a little over a week until Memorial Day weekend and I count that as the start of summer as it is definitely summer temperature wise and from the fact I'm out of school on the official date of June 21 (which is also National Wear Your Lilly Day!).
I usually spend a lot of time in a swimsuit each summer- whether I'm at the pool, at the lake, or on a beach vacation- so having a few great swimsuit options is always necessary! I just realized that I'm falling a bit short in the swimwear department this year, which I will definitely have to change as my big trip to Hawaii is in less than 2 months (I'm thinking of maybe ordering the striped bikini, would love to know your thoughts!)

Summer Packing Tips
Wednesday, May 18, 2016
I have been so lucky to have traveled so much this spring- from Florida to New York to Georgia to Virginia and now this week to Savannah and Charleston! One thing about all the travel is I have certainly gotten better at packing! I can't tell y'all the things I forget to bring with me- always seems like I forget at least one thing a trip!
Besides my occasional packing forgetfulness, I've decided to put together some packing tips for y'all in case you're heading somewhere fun this summer!
Besides my occasional packing forgetfulness, I've decided to put together some packing tips for y'all in case you're heading somewhere fun this summer!
Plan your outfits by day
First, make a list of what you will be doing each day (Monday- beach, Tuesday- shopping then dinner...) so you know what you need to pack. Then, assign outfits to each event (dress for brunch, a bikini for the pool, etc.). I am a chronic overpacker so this definitely helps to limit how much stuff you're actually bringing with you!
Put your shoes in dust bags
I have a bunch of Tory Burch dust bags for shoes so those are my go-to for packing! This way your shoes don't get your clothes dirty or smelly!
Always bring a few plastic baggies
You never know when you'll need them! I typically put my lotion, hairspray, shampoo, etc. in a plastic bag so they don't spill all over my luggage!
Pack a "to pack list"- so you don't forget anything!
As mentioned before, I always forget something (a few weeks ago, it was my curling iron that I needed for the next day!) so this helps to prevent that! If you plan your outfits by day, that makes this step so much easier!
Choose a color palette
If you choose a few colors to stick to (i.e. blue, pink, and white), it makes things so much easier when packing shoes and jewelry as the shoes and jewelry you pack will match so better!
Bring an appropriate amount of jewelry
I'm always guilty of bringing a ton of jewelry and then wearing the same 5 pieces that I wear on a day-to-day basis. Be honest with yourself while packing- "am I really going to wear this?" is a good question to ask yourself!
