Preppy Summer Essentials

Thursday, June 8, 2017

Even though I have been out of school for a few weeks now (perks of senior year), school is just starting to get out for everyone else, which has me thinking of those pieces you always turn to during the summer. I am a big fan of loading my closet up with essentials that I know that I will be able to wear all the time throughout the season and it's the perfect time to shop for those pieces that will become your summer essentials.

Seniors at my high school have a business casual dress code, which meant that I typically wore dresses or skirts to school (I shared a week's worth of outfits in September and then again in February). After school, I typically wore workout clothes for either nannying or barre so I was so excited to break out all of my summer clothes (hello all of my chino shorts!) once my break started. I have turned to summer after summer and since my style is rather preppy, I figured I would share some of my favorite preppy summer essentials with y'all!

Pom Pom Coverup: I bought this coverup for Spring Break (which you can read about here) and wore it almost everyday. It is a light, loose material that is easy to throw on and I know I will get so much use out of it this summer!

Bikini Top: I have this bikini top in another color and love it! The higher neckline is perfect for more active days if you want to go tubing or boogie boarding or whatever. It comes in so many colors and is super on-trend too!

Shift Dress: I live in my shift dresses during the summer as they are perfect for so many different occasions, from graduation parties to church to brunch. I wore this dress for my graduation party (which I'll talk about more in tomorrow's post) and love that it has the classic shift dress silhouette but with a stretchy material, which is perfect for hot summer days!

Printed Chino Shorts: I own an embarrassingly large number of Lilly Pulitzer Chino Shorts, which I think speaks of how great they are for the summer months. They look so cute with a simple top and the prints truly make any outfit!

City Mini Skirt: I have this skirt in two different colors and love how classic it is! The shape is so flattering and J. Crew Factory always has so many different colors available. This fun red is so cute and I think it would look so cute with a white or a navy top!

Eyelet Top: White tops are a staple in my summer wardrobe as they simply go with everything from printed shorts to skirts! This Vineyard Vines top is so cute and I love how versatile it is as well.

Linen Shorts: I bought these shorts earlier this spring and love them as they are so comfortable! They're similar to chino shorts but are much looser, which is perfect for hot summer days where you don't want tight shorts hugging your thighs. The white pair is perfect as you can pair it with so many different tops!

Jack Rogers: These sandals are my go-to during the warm weather months as you can wear them with everything. They look perfect with shift dresses and with chino shorts and a top (I've also been known to wear them with norts and a tee). I alternate between wearing Jacks and Tory Burch Millers in the summer months (I compared the two in this blog post) and love them both!
