10 (Easy) Things to do to be More Put Together

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

No matter what your personal style may be (preppy, hipster, classic, trendy, girly, sporty), I think having your style be put together is very important. I'm a firm believer in "fake it till you make it" so having some ways seem more put together definitely helps you to be "the girl who has it all together". You know the girl- the one taking AP courses, the president of everything, the nicest girl you know and always shows up on time with the perfect outfit and an iced coffee in her hand. Well, my tips may not transform you into that girl overnight but hey "fake it till you make it".

1. Be on time, if not early
One of the best ways to be put together. I wouldn't say it's easy though as it seems normal albeit inconvenient for whoever is expecting you to arrive late. I try to set a time that I have to leave by so I'll be on time that includes a buffer incase you run into traffic, you need gas, you get lost, etc. For instance, if an event is at 12 and you're 10 minutes away, I'll leave at 11:45.

2. To do lists are your new BFF!
Find a cute to-do list (doesn't have to be expensive- Home Goods has some cute ones!) and write everything you have to do on it! I like to make a list for everyday so I can add all the things I need to do (even if it's simple like shower) on it. Not to mention crossing all of your tasks off might be the best feeling ever!

3. Find your Signature Jewelry
This makes adding jewelry to your outfit on busy mornings a million times easier. These are your go-to pieces and if you're like me, they're probably classics. I talk more about this in this post, in which I share my favorite jewelry! But typically you can find me wearing pearl studs, a monogram necklace, my watch, and two David Yurman bangles that my grandmother gave me!

4. Check your email often and reply back ASAP
Honestly, I check my email approximately 800 times a day. I don't want to miss something whether it's an assignment for class, a note from your college counselor, or a meeting re-schedule notice. If the email requires a response, the quicker you respond the better- it shows you care about the contents of the email.

5. Paint your Nails
On the aesthetics side, having your nails painted is one of the easiest ways to add a touch of chic into your outfit and tie everything together. Especially if you're going into an interview or any event where you will shake hands, it's a nice touch to have well groomed hands (even if it sounds totally trivial)

6. Make your Bed (Every Day!)
I oddly can only get stuff done in my bedroom if my room is clean and making your bed is such an easy way to make your room seem cleaner! Plus, you can't jump back in bed as easily for a nap haha!

7. Dress to impress
Another quote I adore is "You can never be overdressed or overeducated". A nice outfit for any occasion helps you seem so much put together. And it doesn't need to take a lot of effort- a simple dress or a cute pants + top combo totally works!

8. Buy an agenda and use it!
My agenda is absolutely my life line! I record everything and anything in it, which helps you stay organized not to mention look pretty at the same time! Check out this post, this post, and this post to see how I've organized my agendas in the past!

9. A thank you note is always welcome
My mom definitely emphasized this for me when I was younger. Though it definitely seemed like a chore when I was 8, I have learned that thank you notes are so important! Buy a few packs at a store like Target and keep them in your desk for after your birthday, holidays, college visits (great way to show your interest!), or just for everyday occasions! I wrote a whole post about thank you notes here.

10. Finish an outfit with amazing accessories
The easiest way to turn a "ehh" outfit into something that seems super put together? Accessories. Add chic sunglasses, nice shoes, a purse that holds everything, or a nice watch for instant glam!

  1. I love, love, love this post! I couldn't do anything without to-do lists, and I'm also an avid email-checker. I may not be that perfectly put-together girl you described at the beginning of the post, but maybe one day I'll make it!

  4. OMG Katie, I love this post! I also check my email very often, and my parents also stressed the importance of thank you notes. One thing that I try to do to stay put together is look over everything that I have to do the next day to make sure that I'm prepared!

  5. Such great tips! I actually was planning a similar post for July! I think there are definitely things you can do to fool people that you have your life together. Somehow, I tend to trick people I have it together from these basic things.
