Hawaii Day 6

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

Happy Tuesday y'all! I am so excited to share with y'all a recap of Day 6 (Wednesday) of my trip- it was definitely my favorite day of the entire trip!

Our day started off very early as we had to be out the door at 6:30 for that day's adventure- swimming with dolphins! Once we got to the dock, we checked in and put on sunscreen before getting on the boat. Our swimming with dolphins was a bit different as the dolphins were completely in the wild (so no cute dolphin kissing pictures) so we drove the boat (well the captain did) up and down the coastline to spot them and then we got into the water to snorkel and see them. It was absolutely an incredible experience and I can't believe still that it actually happened.

Fun fact for y'all: dolphins are nocturnal and hunt at night so from the hours of like 7:30 till 10 they are the most playful as they just ate. If you see them after 10, they are probably trying to rest (learned that they don't sleep because if they did, they would drown). So once it hit 10, we were off to our next snorkeling spot: Kealakekua Bay.

And y'all the snorkeling there was awesome! There is a coral reef underwater, which actually served as the inspiration for the "don't touch the butt" scene in Finding Nemo! You can totally see that when underwater so I thought that was pretty cool!

A bit of history occurred in this cove as well because this is the spot where Captain Cook first landed in the Hawaiian islands and encountered the native Hawaiians. This is definitely an intriguing story and if you do a dolphin tour, your guide will definitely tell it to you!

After doing a bit of snorkeling, it was time to head back in. We got to see some more fun sights along the way back to the dock, including this rock formation that the native Hawaiians thought was the home of their war god- can you see the "face" in the rock?

Once we made it back to the dock, we then drove back to our hotel to enjoy an afternoon by the pool and to also eat lunch.

That night, we had more definite plans as my parents renewed their wedding vows on the beach! They're celebrating their 20th anniversary this year so my dad planned this for them as a way to celebrate. We also had some professional pictures taken but we haven't gotten them back yet so I obviously can't share them haha!

After the vow renewal, we had a dinner at the nice restaurant on the hotel's property, the Canoe House. I had the Filet Mignon (my favorite!) and then the Coffee Ice Cream for dessert and both were  amazing! It was such a great evening and it was great to celebrate my parent's anniversary (a bit belatedly) in Hawaii!

  12. I definitely understand why this was your favorite day! I've always wanted to swim with dolphins. I was actually having a conversation about that with my roommates over dinner earlier this week! I also love snorkeling. There's so much life under the sea! *cue Little Mermaid music*
