On Quarter 1

Tuesday, November 8, 2016

My first quarter of senior year ended last week and I honestly thought it would be the perfect time to just talk and catch up with y'all. I did a recap/vent about my first semester of junior year on the blog in January (which you can read here) and it is probably my most honest posts I have written to this day. Similar to that post, I think it would be good to share my thoughts on senior year so far and everything that has been going on lately (this is somewhat of a lifestyle blog I mean).

After a difficult second semester of junior year, senior year has been a bit of a roller coaster so far (both good and bad). I talked about this in the recap of my first semester of junior year but sophomore year, my friends and I dubbed 16 as "the year of change". And y'all, I had no idea how true that would be for me. First semester brought changes in the classroom with harder classes and a more difficult course load, while second semester of junior year brought changes in my friendships as I grew apart from some of my friends, which honestly wasn't great.

One thing that I constantly remind myself of is that God has a plan for each and everyone of us and this plan isn't exactly what we plan for ourselves, but that plan is ultimately what is best for you and is greater than what we can even imagine. Senior year, I constantly see this work out in my life and it's so funny because even though they seemed so big at the time, my worries from junior year seem so minimal now. And even funnier, there are days where I want to go back to junior year!

One thing that senior year has brought is a mix between wanting to go to college and then days were I want to stay in high school as there are days were I'm so tired of high school and just want to go to college and then there are days were I realize how great high school can be, the bond my grade has, and I'm not so ready to leave. And these don't even have to be days, they can be hours of a particular day or even minutes! I think the Lady Antebellum song, American Honey, sums this up perfectly, "Couldn't wait to get goingBut wasn't quite ready to leave".

Junior year, honestly I was a stress case as I had so much going on and didn't quite know how to handle it. Senior year, even though I have the workload of junior year plus college applications (which I finished a few weeks ago!), I have been so much better about not being as stressed out, which is so important. Juniors reading this, hang in there haha!

After ending the first quarter, I'm so excited for everything the rest of the year holds but I'm definitely looking forward to graduation in the spring ;)

If you're in high school, how has your first quarter been? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I think every Senior has the same feelings about ready to leave but not ready too. I had the same feelings even as a senior at Carolina. It is true that God's plan and our plans are definitely varied. I remember in college my sophomore year, I heard the song Help Somebody by Van Zant and really just heard the lyric "If you want to hear God laugh tell him you plans." Good luck on your 2nd quarter!
