How to Switch Your Closet to Spring (Plus Organization Tips!)

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

North Carolina has been having the most gorgeous spring weather this past week (I'm talking temperatures in the 70s!) and it has been making me super excited for spring and summer! Last weekend, I decided to switch my closet from all of my fall and winter clothes to my spring and summer clothes, which has made me even more excited for warmer weather!

To save space in my closet and in my dresser, I only keep in-season and every-season clothing out. The rest of my clothes I keep in two large Lilly Pulitzer storage bins that are pictured in this post! This system has worked great for me the past couple of seasons so I figured I would share how I organize with y'all today!

The Before

As y'all can see my closet was pretty messy and I needed to clean it out :)

Here are my storage bins and they were full of my spring and summer clothes when I took this picture!

Step 1: Take everything out of your closet
And I mean everything, even if you know 100% that you're keeping the item! This helps to better form a picture of what you're dealing with!

Step 2: Sort everything into piles
I made 5 piles: in-season to go to my closet, in-season to go to my dresser, out-of-season to go into the bins, donations, and then pieces to throw out. Be sure to keep all of these separate and to also be realistic on what pieces you are putting where.

What was in one of the bins!

Step 3: Remove the clothes you're getting rid of from the room and throw out everything that you need to into the trash
Self-explanatory but place all of the clothes in the donation pile into a trash bag or just remove it from the area. Put all of the pieces in the trash pile into the trash

Step 4: Put all of last season's clothes into the bins and put back into your closet
Put everything you determined as last-season back into the bins and put them away

Step 5: Organize your in-season clothing
This step is based on personal preference. You can organize by color, sleeve length, pattern, or whatever floats your boat!

Organization Tips

Be picky about what clothes you keep while sorting. Ask yourself: "When was the last time I wore this?", "What am I going to wear this to in the next 6 months?", or "What can I pair this with that is currently in my closet?"

Make an effort to put your laundry into it's proper place every day!

Store purses inside of a larger tote bag

Use shoeboxes to store knick-knacks or random items

Use a bag (I used a Lululemon shopping bag) to store all of your extra hangers

Easter Dresses

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

I honestly cannot believe that Easter is less than three weeks away. Easter is one of my favorite holidays and I look forward to it every year, especially since it always falls during Spring Break!

My family goes to brunch at my grandparents's country club every year after Mass and I always love dressing up for all of the festivities! Plus, it's the perfect time to break out dresses in fun colors and seersucker! If you're on the hunt for the perfect dress, I've gathered up 6 of my favorites that would also be perfect for other springtime occasions!

Spring Break Travel Outfit {Collab with Kasey of Classically Kasey}

Monday, March 7, 2016

Happy Monday! I am so excited for today's post: a collab with Kasey of Classically Kasey! Spring Break is just around the corner (mine is only 2 and a half weeks away!) so we decided that we would both share an outfit that is perfect for traveling!

Can we talk about these pink pants? I've been singing "I got my pink pants, got my pink pants, got my pink pants on" all day (to the tune to Jimmy Fallon's "Tight Pants" skit, duh) and I can't help but love it! They're amazingly comfy too!

This outfit would be totally perfectly for a long car ride or plane ride. If you're heading somewhere warm, this would look just as cute with a short sleeve top and sandals!

Top- Gap (old, similar linked) Jeans- Vineyard Vines Riding Boots- Tory Burch (unavailable) Bracelets- David Yurman (old, similar linked) Fitbit

My Chic Week: February 26- March 3

Friday, March 4, 2016

Hey y'all! Hope you are all having a great weekend (so far!). Typically, I try to have My Chic Week up on Friday but I had a busy night Thursday and I was studying for the SATs all afternoon on Friday but hey, better late than never, right?

My weekend last weekend was pretty laid back, which I'm definitely not complaining about after a crazy few weeks! After school on Friday, I ran an errand and then headed home! My family had Whole Foods pizza for dinner (which we're obsessed with) and then binge-watched Fuller House. I loved Full House as a kid so this series has been too fun to watch (my favorite in Fuller House is Kimmy- she's exactly the same as in the original series!).

Saturday morning, I slept in before catching up on some PLL. Afterwards, my mom and I ran a few errands, including a trip down to Trader Joe's. My mom and I also went to Saturday night Mass as we wanted to sleep in Sunday morning!

I really wish I had more to share about Sunday but honestly, I worked on homework all day after taking the day off on Saturday! Nothing too exciting!

I had Monday off from Faith Formation so I used my afternoon to get my passport picture taken (getting a passport is on my 101 in 1001 list!) and to go for a run before getting all of my homework done! Somehow I didn't have a ton of homework, which was nice!

This week has been quite hectic school-wise and it is safe to say that I cannot wait for Spring Break! Luckily, the weather is supposed to warm up a bit this upcoming week, which is so exciting!

On my Radar this week:

1. SAT- The first of the new SATs was on Saturday! This was my first SAT, which was very interesting to say the least!

2. Love these tips from Tori on handling stress!

3. Have you noticed a few changes to the design at Chic in Carolina? I've been playing with a few things and love it!

4. Lilly Pulitzer's new arrivals are stunning! How long till Spring Break?

5. I loved reading Dorothy's post on how she organizes her Day Designer planner!

Be sure to check out my posts from this past week:

Hope y'all have a great weekend and good luck to everyone taking the SAT tomorrow!

#springbreakbloggers: The Perfect Vacation Outfit

Thursday, March 3, 2016

Today, I am linking up in Olivia's Spring Break themed linkup and sharing the perfect vacation outfit! My spring break is three weeks away and I could not be more excited! I will heading down to Florida for Easter for the first part of break and then my mom and I will be traveling to NYC to celebrate my 17th birthday a bit early (my birthday is April 14).

No matter where you may be headed for break, I think this outfit would be perfect! It would look great for a travel outfit, a casual day of shopping, touring all of the sites in the city you're visiting, a casual dinner, the list continues! I have and love the majority of these pieces (except for the striped shirt)! I am obsessed with Jack Rogers and they are so comfy (be sure to break them in though!) and my Kendra Scott necklace is constantly on repeat!

Where are you going for spring break? What is your perfect vacation outfit? Let me know in the comments!

One Year of Chic in Carolina

Wednesday, March 2, 2016

Today is a very exciting day for me as it marks an entire year since I sat down and created Chic in Carolina after months of reading other blogs and going back and forth on whether I should start my own. 270 blog posts later, it is safe to say I haven't looked back!

Honestly, my blog anniversary really crept up on me. I always knew it was the first week of March and then as I sat down to write this it hit me.

I am so excited to have shared 270 blog posts with y'all over the past 365 days and can't wait for year two! I could not have done it without all of your support whether it be commenting on a post, liking an Instagram, sending me an email, or simply reading! The funny thing about blogging is that you may want to become "blog famous" but at the same time, you don't think anybody out there is actually reading your posts. Honestly, it took me a few months to realize all of my page views weren't just coming from myself or my family. I want to thank all of y'all for listening to my rambling that occasionally occurs in my posts and just sticking around for each post!

Thank you so much for reading over the past year and I can't wait to see where blogging takes me in this coming year!

February Favorites

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

Happy March y'all! I always place March with the start of spring (and warmer temperatures) which I could not be more thrilled about especially with Spring Break just around the corner! If you're new to Chic in Carolina (welcome!), at the beginning of each month, I round up all of my favorites from the previous month. Be sure to check out my favorites from previous months here!

Kendra Scott Pendant- I have been borrowing this necklace in a similar color from my mom the past week or so and I love it! My monogram necklace recently broke and I have yet to get it fixed so this has been the perfect pendant style necklace to wear that adds a small touch to any outfit! I will definitely be picking one up for myself soon (now what color?)!

Lilly Notebook- One of my best friends bought this for me for Christmas with some Lilly pens and it is so cute! I have been using it to keep track of blog posts this month and I love it!

Kind Bars- I am a pretty big granola bar lover and this Kind bar flavor is one of my newest favorites! I love the slight coffee flavor, so yummy!

Starbucks Skinny Vanilla Latte- My go-to Starbucks drink this month. I love, love, love the foam and it's around 100 calories making it the perfect treat!

Fitbit- My parents gave this to me earlier this month since they received them as a gift at an event they attended and I am obsessed. I'm planning on doing a full post soon but I am really loving my Fitbit!

Tea- I had a nasty almost a sinus-infection earlier this month so my mom introduced me to this tea. I have had it almost every night since and it is so relaxing to sip on tea before bed especially on a stressful school night!

Lip Treatment- My lips have been so chapped lately so while at Southpark Mall earlier this month (read about that here) I splurged on this lip treatment! It is definitely pricey but I love it so far!

Lilly Pulitzer Scarf- Perfect for brightening up a winter outfit not to mention they're so soft!

What are your February Favorites? Let me know in the comments!
