One Second Everyday Video

Monday, April 10, 2017

Happy Monday y'all! Today's post is a bit different than my usual posts because I'll be talking about something that has been on my radar for a while now: One Second Everyday videos.

image via my Instagram

If you haven't heard of it before, One Second Everyday is an app where, as you probably guessed, film one second of your life every single day to combine it into a really cool video. I first found out about it from Kelly's blog and it seems like such a fun way to document the little moments of your life. Looking back on other years of high school, I definitely tend to remember the "big moments" better- you know the events that are really noteworthy! The little moments are really forgotten though, even though they do make up a big part of your life, so I love that a 1 Second Everyday helps in remembering those moments!

I decided a while ago that I wanted to make my own video and thought that it would be really fun to start it on my 18th birthday (this Friday!!) to document each day of being 18. With lots of big changes on the horizon with the end of senior year, graduation, and then starting college at Clemson in August, I think the video will turn out to be such a fun way to remember this time in my life.

Once I finish making my video, I will definitely be sharing it with y'all because I am so excited to start!

Have y'all made a 1 Second Everyday video? Let me know in the comments!

Weekend Reading

Saturday, April 8, 2017

Happy Saturday y'all! Since my posting schedule was a bit different than I initially thought of this week, I decided to move the On my Radar section of yesterday's post to its own Weekend Reading post. I honestly kind of love having Weekend Reading posts- it makes sure that Friday's post isn't a million miles long and also gives y'all another post to read on Saturday. Let me know if y'all would like to see Weekend Reading posts be a regular thing here on Chic in Carolina!

This weekend shaped up to be a fun one as last night, I went out to dinner with a friend from elementary school and tomorrow, one of my besties and I are heading into the city to get coffee at one of my favorite Charlotte coffee shops!

a snap from dinner in Charlotte Sunday, which I recapped in yesterday's post

1. Evelyn Henson just came out with new art prints this week and they're so cute- I think I'll definitely need to get a few for my dorm this fall.

2. Obsessed with this outfit from my friend Renee that she wore during her trip to Palm Beach

3. With graduation season right around the corner, Dorothy's post on how to write a sincere thank you note is so helpful!

4. This baby video is so so so adorable!

5. Obsessed with how Cara styled a black dress for both work and going out!

6. As y'all probably have heard by now, Jenna Lyons is stepping down as the head of J. Crew and I'm so interested to see where this takes the brand

7. Speaking of J. Crew...I just ordered this gingham bikini (top + bottom) and this coverup for spring break and I'm so excited for them to arrive!

9. Spring Break starts on Wednesday (yay!!) and I'm in need of a book for my trip to Florida- any recommendations? My mom recommended Big Little Lies to me after hearing that there's a miniseries on it but I would love to hear y'all's recommendations!

10. I've been obsessed with The Everygirl lately so y'all should definitely go check it out!

Happy Saturday!

My Chic Week: March 31- April 6

Friday, April 7, 2017

Happy Friday y'all! I am so excited because 1. this post is going up on time (#thestruggleisreal) and 2. there's only 2.5 days till Spring Break! It seems like the weeks till break have dragged on so I'm so excited that this time next week I'll be in Florida and it will be my birthday!!

Since last week's My Chic week post went up on Monday, I decided to do a Weekend Reading for y'all that will go up tomorrow (read my last Weekend Reading here) so be sure to check back in tomorrow for that!

Last Friday was a half day of school so thankfully we had shortened classes. I didn't do anything exciting with my extra time, just hung out at home before going to work haha.

Friday was J. Crew's #NationalStripesDay so I obviously wore a J. Crew striped shirt!

Saturday morning, I was able to sleep in before going to a barre class later in the morning. After class, I went home and ate lunch before going to nanny in the afternoon.

Nannying wound up being very laid back and I was able to get some work done while the baby napped. I had a low-key night Saturday, which was a nice way to relax.

Sunday morning started off on the early side as I went to a 9:15 AM barre class but new workout clothes definitely helped that one out haha! Afterwards, I came home and then checked a lot of things off of my to-do list, including studying for an AP Psych Test and this week's blog post.

Sunday night was a bit more exciting as I drove into the city to meet up with Amy, Cara, and Annaliese to go out to dinner. Annaliese is moving this week to Vermont (so excited for her but will definitely miss her) so we ate at Ink n Ivy in Uptown to celebrate. It was so fun catching up as it has been a while since we've all seen each other and the food was so yummy too!

Monday was definitely a busy one as my day started off with an AP Psych test. Thankfully, that went well and the rest of my school day was pretty normal.

I taught my Faith Formation class on Monday and I'm in total disbelief that I only have two more classes left this year. This is my last year teaching as I'll be at Clemson this fall so it's definitely bittersweet.

After Faith Formation, I ate dinner at home and then went to barre before going home and turning in an essay.

Tuesday was another busy day with an assignment due in AP Psych, a NHS meeting during lunch, a test due for AP Lang in the afternoon, and then working in the afternoon as well.

I realized while cleaning out my closet a few weekends ago that I am definitely lacking in swimsuits so I ordered two new ones for spring break and the bottoms for this super cute bikini arrived on Tuesday. I ordered the top a few weeks ago with a different pair of bottoms that I didn't love so I'm really glad I found these new ones because they're so cute!

Wednesday morning, I was up bright and early to go to a 6 AM barre class. The day was definitely an interesting one and we had some nasty weather Wednesday too. I wound up taking the boys I nanny to Chick-fil-a for dinner, which was a great way to end the day.

After waking up early for barre Wednesday, my usual wakeup call seemed like sleeping in. Thursday wasn't anything too crazy although I did have a Calc test in the afternoon, which is always fun.

Thursday afternoon, I took the boys I nanny to the park and even though it was a bit cold out, it was nice to spend some time outside. On a side note, I've been borrowing this Tory Burch bag from my mom this week (she got it while we were in New York City last Spring Break) and I have been loving it. The bag is a bit smaller than what I usually gravitate towards (this is the purse I typically use) but I really like that it can still hold everything I need and is a crossbody.

Spring Wishlist

Thursday, April 6, 2017

With the weather finally starting to warmup and Spring Break less than a week away, I've been doing a lot of online browsing and shopping. There's so many pieces I love for spring and summer so I figured that I would share them with y'all in a wishlist post.

Every few months, I love to share pieces that have caught my attention with y'all in a wishlist. It's both a fun way to share items with y'all and also for me to kind of make a list of what I want to purchase for the season! I also update my "wishlist" board on Pinterest fairly frequently so be sure check that out (and follow me on Pinterest!).

Lilly Pulitzer Top- Lilly is always my go-to in the spring and summer months and I just love this tee! You can style it so many different ways- with shorts, jeans, or even tucked into a skirt- and it's just so cute!

Green Gingham Off-the-Shoulder Top- I have been loving everything gingham this spring and this J. Crew top combines the gingham trend with the off-the-shoulder trend that has been popular for a few years now. I was initially drawn to the navy version (#navyornothing) but I really love the green shade- it would look so cute with white pants!

Orange Seersucker Dress- After committing to Clemson, I realized how lacking my closet is of Clemson orange so I've been on the hunt for cute Clemson orange and purple dresses for game day this fall (check out my "game day" pinterest board). This Lauren James dress is so cute and would pair well with cowboy boots (another thing I need to buy for college) or sandals. Unfortunately, they're currently sold out of my size in this style but as soon as they restock, I will be buying this beauty!

Blue Off-the-Shoulder Top- Tuckernuck has been killing it with their new arrivals lately and I just love this off-the-shoulder top. Not to mention it's under 50 dollars too!

Striped with Gingham Sleeves Top- I feel like I've seen this top on just about every blogger I follow but it's just so cute! I always love a good striped tee and I love that this one has gingham bell sleeves too!

Gingham Bikini- I've realized that I need some new swimsuits for this season and this gingham bikini is so cute and is such a good price!

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- I received a sample of this product in February and it seriously works so well. As you may of guessed, you apply it all over your face prior to foundation and it helps your face look smoother and your foundation apply better. I will definitely be buying the full size version soon!

Sail to Stable Dress- I included this dress in my Easter Dresses post and I seriously love the color for spring. It will be so cute for graduation festivities!

Gingham Pajamas- Continuing with the gingham theme but I love these pajamas. My grandparents gave me a J. Crew pajama set for Christmas last year and they are so comfy so I think I may add this gingham pair to the collection haha!

Striped Tory Burch Millers- When I first saw these online, I totally fell in love with these! Jacks and Tory Burch Millers are essential for warm weather and I, of course, love the striped ones!

Clemson Jack Rogers- Another piece that will be so cute for game day this fall! I love my Jack Rogers for the spring and summer and these Clemson ones are so cute!

What's on your Spring Wishlist? Let me know in the comments!

How to Make Time for Yourself in High School

Wednesday, April 5, 2017

Happy Wednesday y'all! I'm so excited for today's post as I'll be talking about how to make more time for yourself in high school. One of the things that is tricky about high school is that you're in class for 7 hours every day and when you get home, you typically have lots of homework to do in addition to sports, extracurriculars, and work. All of this typically does not leave a lot of time for yourself, which can be pretty draining.

As a senior, I feel like I've learned a few tips for a better balance between school and life so I figured it would be helpful for me to share those with y'all today!

Schedule in workouts
I talked about this more in last week's blog post but one of my saving graces this year has been my Pure Barre classes. I try to go 3 to 5 times a week and I love that the class is a hour just for me, no distractions. It is sometimes hard to squeeze a class into my schedule but it is so good for my mood and health as well. My studio requires that you sign up for class before hand, which is really helpful for me as since it's in my calendar, I have to go and can't bail out at the last minute.

Learn to say no
It sucks saying no whether it's to a coffee date with a friend, a babysitting job, or to tutoring another student but if you say yes to everything, you'll find yourself stretched out way too thin. Saying no is a good thing in keeping a good balance and having a bit more me time as well.

Plan ahead
Over the weekend, I try to sit down and plan out my week in my agenda (see how I organize my agenda here). I can usually see what days will be crazy and what days won't so I can plan my week around that, creating a bit of extra time for myself.

Do at least one fun thing each weekend
I am definitely an extrovert so I recharge by spending time with my family and friends. Lately, I've been trying to make sure that I do at least one thing each weekend whether that is going shopping, grabbing coffee with a friend, or going out to dinner with friends. Having a good balance between school work and "life" is really important and making sure you do at least one fun thing every weekend ensures that your weekend is a bit more balanced.

Get to bed early
If I don't get enough sleep, I am a grumpy person. Unfortunately in high school, you don't have too much control over what time you have to get up in the morning but you do have control over what time you get to bed. I try to get to bed as early as possible and even though I could use that time to watch Netflix or do whatever, I know the extra sleep is so helpful!

You can't take out water from an empty well
I remember hearing this quote from somewhere and I absolutely love it as you can't give yourself fully and do your best if you're emotionally or physically drained. Even though it is hard to tell others no or waiting to do something, if it will "drain your well dry" you won't be able to put your full effort it. Reminding myself this is helpful in deciding to have a relaxing weekend or night in and refilling up your well for yourself.

Know when you need a break
Around this time of the school year, I always get to the point where I just need a break from the drama  and workload of school. Recognizing this need for a break is so important as you are then able to say "okay, this weekend I need to make a little more time for me time". You can't run on full speed forever so it's so important to see when you need a break and then take one.

March Favorites

Tuesday, April 4, 2017

I definitely say this every month but I am amazed at how quickly March flew by. It was quite an exciting month since I made my college decision (Go Tigers!) and I'm one month closer to graduation! April is shaping up to be a busy month too- my spring break starts next week and I'll be turning 18 in 10 days!

At the start of every month, I love sharing my favorites from the previous month with y'all! I've been doing this for quite a while now and it's fun for me to look through previous months. I had quite a few favorites in March, some old, some new, and I'm so excited to share them with y'all!

Kate Spade Heels- My old nude heels had definitely seen better days so I decided to bite the bullet on these Kate Spade beauties! They were definitely quite a splurge but they are so classy and I know I will get a ton of use out of them in the future!

Pure Barre Tank- My barre studio had a St. Patrick's Day promotion where if you wore green to class you could pick a coupon that had different percentages off of a retail item. I got a 20% off coupon so I used that as an excuse to buy this tank that I had been eyeing for a while. It's unfortunately unavailable online though! I've worn it to class several times since then and absolutely love it- it's a popular piece at my studio too!

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo- I ran out of dry shampoo earlier this month so while at the mall a few weekends ago, I picked this dry shampoo up at Sephora. I have been obsessed with the Drybar ever since I got my hair blown out there in New York last spring (I'm going to the Drybar in Jacksonville, FL over Spring Break and I'm so excited!) and I really love this product so far!

Lilly Pulitzer Leggings- I saw these in store while I was pre-ordering for Lunch at Lilly and knew I had to have them. They are so cute and so comfortable too- I get so many compliments on them each time I wear them!

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment- This product has been featured in my monthly favorites before but I seriously love it so much! It is definitely a splurge but it does such a good of keeping your lips moisturized!

Pure Barre March Challenge- My studio has had a 20 class in 31 days this month and it has been such a great motivation for me to sign up for a few extra classes, which is definitely helpful with Spring Break right around the corner! I managed to go to 21 classes in 31 days so I am super excited about that!

Nature Valley Granola Bars- I am low-key obsessed with these granola bars! Seriously, I sometimes eat two a day. They are a bit messy but they are so yummy and filling. I always keep one in my bag for school to have as a snack in one of my classes

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream- My face has been super crazy lately so I have definitely been relying on this moisturizer to help keep my face from being super dry! I have repurchased this product multiple times because I seriously love it!

Iced Coffee (not pictured)- The weather has finally warmed up so I've switched over to iced coffee whenever I'm at Starbucks or a coffee shop. Gotta love spring y'all!

My Chic Week: March 24-30

Monday, April 3, 2017

Happy Monday y'all! So I totally suck as a blogger because I did not have posts up for y'all last Thursday and Friday but to play catch up, this is the My Chic Week post that should of gone up on Friday and we'll be up to date to have Friday's My Chic Week post as scheduled! Rather than have two On my Radar posts go up in the same week, I think I'll have a Weekend Reading with my "On my Radar" up on Saturday morning!

Thankfully, this is my last full of week of school before spring break (we only have two and a half days next week) so the craziness should come to an end soon haha!

Two Fridays ago thankfully wasn't too crazy and I was so excited to see that my new Day Designer arrived when I got home from school. I've used Lilly Pulitzer agendas all throughout high school (sophomore year, junior year, senior year) but I decided to switch to a Day Designer for college as I'll have a lot more going on! The agenda starts in June and I'm so excited to use it!

Friday afternoon, I was able to catch up with my friend Renee of Gimme Glamour for coffee, which was so fun. Renee is a freshman at Elon and was home for spring break so we were able to catch up! It had been a few months since we last saw each other so I loved getting to hear about Elon and her experience joining a sorority.

I went to barre Saturday morning and afterwards, I made a quick stop at Starbucks to get a vanilla latte. I had a few things to work on at home and I ate lunch.

In the afternoon on Saturday, I volunteered at my school's play and was able to see the play. After the play, I went home and then went to mass with my family.

Saturday night was especially exciting because I got to see Riley of Northern Prepster! She visited USC where she will be attending college that day and she wound up staying the night in my hometown. She came over to my house and we just hung out, which was so much fun (we lived-streamed, which was hilarious).

Sunday wasn't too crazy as I worked on homework and blogged all day. I went to a barre class in the afternoon before eating dinner at home with my family.

Monday seemed like such a busy day due to the amount of homework I had that night (I thought I was a second semester senior?). I also taught my Faith Formation class and went to a barre class, which were both good breaks from a crazy amount of homework.

Thankfully, the rest of the week wasn't as busy in terms of homework and Charlotte has been experiencing some amazingly warm weather! On Tuesday, I took the kids I nanny to the park and it was so nice to spend some time outside!

On both Wednesday and Thursday, I went to the 6 AM class at my barre studio to squeeze in a final few classes for the March challenge. I didn't have too much going on, just a few quizzes and assignments due, and I worked both afternoons as well!

Happy Monday!
