Fall Wishlist

Thursday, October 25, 2018

The weather has finally cooled down here in Clemson (it's in the 40s as I type this!), which means it is finally time for fall clothes! The south always takes forever to cool down and I swear that it was in the 90s just the other day but I am so excited to break out some of my favorite fall and winter pieces (hello riding boots!).

Even though I'm excited to bring out some of my old favorites, I can't help but look around online at all of the cute new pieces! I decided to round up some of my favorites for y'all in case you're looking for a piece or two to refresh your fall wardrobe!

Lilly Pulitzer Lace Dress- When you think Lilly, you typically don't think of darker, more neutral clothing but this dress is absolutely stunning! I love the thin straps and the lace is gorgeous- perfect for a formal event you may have coming up!

Off the Shoulder Top- Clearly I'm loving this deep emerald green this season and I love love love this top (and it's under $100!). I love a good off-the-shoulder top and this one is stunning!

Sweater Dress- Y'all the price of this dress is incredible for what you get! It looks so soft and comfortable yet would look so chic paired with riding boots and maybe a vest!

Cashmere Pullover- This pullover looks absolutely dreamy- my friends always make fun of me for my cashmere obsession in the fall and winter but this looks so soft and comfortable for everyday wear!

Ruffled Sleeve Sweater- This sweater is a bit of a splurge but those sleeves are stunning and would make a gorgeous statement! I think it would look so cute paired with jeans and booties with a fun necklace for a night out!

Lilly Blouse- I love a good Lilly blouse paired with jeans (or pants like these for student teaching) and riding boots and I love this print! The ruffle along the hemline is so cute and adds a little something to the top!

Free People Striped Tee- This Free People tee is so stinkin' cute! I love the ruffles along the hem and who can say no to stripes?

J. Crew Lace Dress- The color of this dress is stunning and would work for any fall/early winter event! I love the lace paired with the ruffled sleeves!

What's on your fall wishlist? Let me know in the comments!

Productive Tasks to Get Done in 5, 15, 30, and 60 Minutes

Tuesday, October 23, 2018

If you're a long-time reader of Chic in Carolina (snaps to you!!), you probably know I'm very Type A and a big fan of productivity and organization. I always joke to my friends and family that I hate relaxing and doing nothing (although I do have my days!) as I'd rather being doing something!

I wanted to put together a list of tasks based off of the time it takes to get them done to help y'all be more productive in your day to day lives. Whether you have 5 minutes or 60, it is definitely enough to be more productive!

in 5 minutes

write a to-do list
As I'm sure y'all probably know by now, I love a good to-do list. If you have a few minutes to spare on a busy day, definitely sit down with your agenda and write down everything and anything you need to do (even if it seems somewhat pointless to write down, like showering or working out). I always feel so much more able to handle the day after writing it all out plus it ensures that you don't forget to do anything!

make your bed
If you only have time to do one thing to get your life together, definitely make it be making your bed. This is such a good habit to get into and honestly makes your room look so much cleaner even it's the only change you make. Plus, I know I'm less likely to want to get back into bed to take a nap if my bed is already made!

pick up the clothes off of the floor
This is a really quick and easy task that truly makes your life feel more put-together and productive. After a busy day, my room may be a little messy with some clothes on the floor and simply picking those up makes my room seem a lot cleaner in a short period of time.

clean your makeup brushes
I know this is one of those tasks that you should be doing often but don't always get to it. If I have a few minutes, I'll soak my brushes in soapy water and then come back to rinse them and dry them off on a towel. I'm sure there's better ways to clean brushes but this is pretty easy and gets the job done!

take out the trash/recycling
For living in such a small room (which y'all can peak inside in this blog post), trash can pile up fairly quickly. We try to take it out as often as possible but this is a great small task to be more productive as who wants to sit a room with a pile of trash bags and recycling in the corner?

respond to urgent emails
I'm pretty good about responding to emails promptly but when emails pile up in my inbox, I tend to prioritize certain ones if I'm in a time crunch or only have 5 minutes to make a dent in the pile. Definitely prioritize responding or sending those more important ones as it's still being productive given the amount of time you're working with.

in 15 minutes

update your agenda
If I have a little bit more time, I'll take out my agenda and completely update it with any new deadlines or days of important events. I keep my to-do list in my agenda as I use a day designer so it's convenient to keep everything in one place. Be sure to see how I organize it in this blog post.

delete items in your downloads folder
If you use a Mac, be sure to clean out your downloads folder. I feel like it's so easy to forget that the folder exists and is using up storage space on your computer. Take a few minutes and either delete any random or old items or move it into its "proper home" on your computer so you can easily find it later.

tidy up your room
I said that making your bed or picking up your clothes are great ways to tidy up your room in a short amount of time but with 15 minutes you have a bit more time to clean up. I wouldn't say this is exactly "cleaning" more putting everything back where it belongs and getting rid of random items lying around your room.

clean out your purse/backpack
I know on busy weeks it's so easy for your backpack or purse to become a disaster. After those busy weeks, take a few minutes and take everything out. Get rid of those old receipts lying at the bottom of your bag and remove anything you don't need for a more organized bag.

in 30 minutes

clean out your inbox
One of our 5 minute tasks was to respond to important emails but with some extra time, clean out the entirety of your inbox. Respond to those important ones, delete unnecessary ones, and file the rest away in a folder. I always try to get my inbox to 0 or as close to that as possible! As be sure to delete everything in your deleted folder as it takes up space!

organize one area
30 minutes may not be enough time to do a deep organization of your entire room but it definitely gives you enough time to focus on one area. Choose one area that has been giving you stress lately (the top of your desk, your bedside table, your t-shirt drawer, etc.) and focus on organizing just that. You'll feel so much more productive and organized without too much of a time commitment.

transfer photos from your phone to your computer
Between being a blogger and then a typical college girl who loves to take pictures, I have way too many pictures on my phone. Every once in a while, I take the time to plug my phone into my computer and export of all my pictures. This clears up a ton of space on my phone and I'm also able to better organize all of my photos in iPhoto.

in 60 minutes

run a load of laundry
Last year, laundry was such a pain as it was in the basement of my building and required a trip down the elevator or lots of stairs. This year, it's conveniently on my floor of the sorority hall so I do it a lot more often that I used to. If I have a bit more time, I'll throw my stuff in the washer so I have clean clothes or sheets!

workout
Even though working out itself isn't exactly a productive task, I feel so much more productive on the days that I make it to the gym. Dedicating a hour or even less that can have such a big difference in your day (something I need to remember as it's been a while since I've hit the gym haha!).

deep clean your room
For some reason cleaning makes me feel really productive so I try to keep my room tidy and clean for the most part. I usually "deep clean" my room once a week and by that I mean vacuum, clean the sink in my room, windex the mirrors, dust, and then wipe everything down with a Clorox wipe. This usually takes way less than a hour but it definitely makes such a difference as your room is so much cleaner and ready for you to be productive in (I hate working in a messy space).

run an errand
60 minutes isn't a ton of time but it's usually enough to cross one errand off of your to-do list. Whether it's running to the grocery store or dropping a package off at the post office, this is a good use of your time as I know usually these are tasks you put off as they take longer.

What are some of your favorite ways to be productive in a short span of time? Let me know in the comments!

1001 Days Later: Final 101 in 1001 Update

Monday, October 22, 2018

Happy Monday y'all! I am so excited to be sharing today's blog post as it is a wrap up of my 101 in 1001 list. For all of y'all who may not be familiar with the concept, Mackenzie Horan of Design Darling came up with the idea a few years ago to make a list of 101 items to accomplish in 1001 days (roughly 2.5 years). I started my list on January 13, 2016 and finished on October 10, 2018. I was able to accomplish 50 out of 101 tasks (just under 50% completed!) and wanted to recap some of my favorites and some that will be on my next 101 in 1001 list!

Throughout my 1001 days, I have been updating y'all on my progress, which y'all can read here, here, here, and here. You can also find my original list here!

Sophomore Year Dorm Room Tour

Wednesday, October 17, 2018

I am so excited to be sharing today's post with y'all...drumroll please...my sophomore year dorm room tour! My freshman year dorm tour was one of my favorite posts from my freshman year and I am so excited to be sharing this year's version!

I reused a lot of the pieces from last year's room as it is a bit impractical to throw things out after only a year of use but since my roommate Rachel and I's colors were a bit different (her dorm room last year was navy blue while mine was a light blue), we purchased some new pieces to tie everything together and we love the way it turned out!

I am a Kappa Alpha Theta here at Clemson University and since we do not have sorority houses here at Clemson, I am living on my sorority hall, which has been so fun as it's fun living under the same roof as most of the girls in my pledge class. Rach and I lucked out as our room has pretty high ceilings compared to the rest of the hall and we have good natural lighting, which definitely makes things feel a bit more homey!

We are actually living in my big's old room, which is so fun as I spent a-lot of time hanging out here last year and I now I live here!

My Chic Week: October 5-11

Saturday, October 13, 2018

Happy Saturday y'all! I hope y'all are enjoying your weekend so far- Clemson has a bye week in football so I'm planning on using this weekend to get ahead in some homework and be productive!

Last weekend, we had an away football game so I decided to go home, which wound up being a great decision as I was totally in need of a chill weekend! Our Fall Break is later this year due to Election Day so it was nice to spend time at home since it had been nearly two months since my last visit!

I drove home after my last class and thankfully my drive was pretty uneventful. My family and I had pizza on the grill for dinner and then hung out our back porch for a while before watching tv and going to bed relatively early!

The next morning, I slept in and had breakfast before going to a Pure Reform class at my Pure Barre studio. If you've been reading CiC for a while, you know that I'm a bit PB obsessed and love going to class as often as I can while I'm home. They introduced the new Reform class after I left for the semester so I was excited to try it and it was such an amazing workout.

After my class, I grabbed a juice from the juice bar next door (another place I miss while I'm in Clemson!) and then my mom and I ran a few quick errands before the Clemson game! A Clemson win always makes for a great day and then my family and I wound up watching a few of the Hunger Games movies as they were having a marathon of them on TV.

The rest of the day was pretty chill as we had burgers for dinner and then had a little early birthday celebration for my younger brother. His birthday is this coming week but we decided to celebrate with cake a little early as I was home!

I was up pretty early on Sunday morning as my family and I went to 7 AM Mass. We had breakfast afterwards and then I organized my closet as I brought some of my more summery clothes home and wanted to bring some fall clothes back with me.

My sister and I watched the end of the last Hunger Games movie and then I went to the grocery store with my mom before the Steelers game. I wound up leaving around 3:45 so I could get back to Clemson in time for my sorority's chapter! Once I got back to Clemson, I unloaded my car and then went to chapter, followed by an officers meeting.

Monday was getting back into the swing of things after a weekend away from campus. I had my one Monday class and then caught up on some homework in the afternoon!

I shared a glimpse into my Tuesday schedule in Tuesday's blog post and it pretty much sums up the day. I had class and then a lab. A few of my Elementary Ed friends and I grabbed lunch and worked on some homework before our afternoon classes. After class, I had a sorority event to go to for my officer position and then I worked on homework and Rachel and I ordered a pizza for dinner!

Wednesday mornings are always fun as I have my field placement in a local kindergarten classroom. I always wish I could stay longer than my one hour visit and this week was no exception. After my placement, I went to my English class and then wound up going to a professor's office hours to ask a question. My afternoon was pretty unproductive as I didn't get much done but I had the chance to unwind a bit, which is always nice! My sorority had our Bible Study that night and then I went to bed relatively early!

Thursday was a fairly busy day as I had my 8 AM class and then came back to my room to get ready for my sorority's philanthropy event. We have our larger philanthropy event in the spring but had a bake sale this past week so I helped set up and table for that on Thursday.

I then came back to my room for a bit before going to my afternoon classes. My 3:30 class wound up getting canceled, which was such a fun surprise not to have to go!

After class ended, I camped out in the Starbucks on campus to catch up on some work and to get some big assignments done. I was super productive, which is always an amazing feeling. I wound up heading back to the hall and ran into to my friend Olivia who was going to Starbucks so I wound up studying with her for a bit before we watched a movie back on the hall!

A Day in my Life: Fall 2018

Tuesday, October 9, 2018

One of my favorite posts to both write and read on other blogs is daily routines. I think it's so fun to peek into other people's day to day lives so hopefully y'all love this peek into my day too!

Tuesdays and Thursdays tend to be my busiest days of the week as I have 4 out of my 5 classes. The college of education for some reason decided to put all of our classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays so on these two days I have class from 8 AM to 4:45 PM. It's definitely crazy and requires a lot of coffee!

My 8 AM lecture has a lab on Tuesday so I have a three hour chunk in the morning dedicated to that (9:30 AM- 12:20 PM). Thankfully, it usually never lasts the whole time so I'm able to get stuff done or maybe take a nap during that time!

One thing about college is two days are never the same! Each day after class ends, the day looks completely different as today, for example, I have a sorority event while some days I'll stay in the library later working on a project or studying for a big test!

What does a typical day in your life look like? Let me know in the comments!

My Chic Week: September 21- October 4

Monday, October 8, 2018

Long time, no My Chic Week post! My schedule has been all over the place lately and blogging unfortunately has been pushed to the back burner. I thankfully do not have any exams this week so I'm planning on using that extra time to get ahead in terms of blogging.

We last left off nearly two weeks ago so I decided it would be better to do more of a life update post than a MCW post where I go through each day of the week as that would take ages haha!

Classes

I have officially gotten through my first set of exams for all of my classes, which is such a relief as the first test for a class is always a bit intimidating as you're never quite sure what to expect. I'm pretty settled into my routine at this point in the semester and I'm really enjoying most of my classes as the majority are classes in my major.

Sorority Life

This month has been a busy one for sorority events from mixers (as pictured above!) to philanthropy events to initiation for our new members! I'm my chapter's Service Director so I've been busy planning our annual Day of Service, which is later this week!

Student Teaching
As many of y'all probably know, I am an Elementary Education major here at Clemson and I want to teach after graduation in a few years. One of the things I love about Clemson's education program is how early we get into the classroom. I had a field placement my very first semester at Clemson and have another one this semester to go along with my Child Development class. I am in kindergarten this semester and always look to my placement each week. I try to share my outfits each week over on my Instagram stories so be sure to follow along there and I will probably do a blog post with more outfit details soon!

Big/Little Reveal

As I talked about in this blog post, big/little reveal was a few weeks ago! It was such an exciting week and I shared a ton of pictures in that post and also explained a little more about what big/little is!

Clemson vs. Syracuse Game!

Two weekends ago, Clemson played Syracuse and even though the game nearly gave everyone in the stadium a heart attack, Clemson pulled through and won! It was such a fun game and rushing the field afterwards was so exciting! I wound up borrowing my roommate Rachel's jersey and I definitely think a Clemson jersey will be on my Christmas list as it is such a gameday essential.

Getting Back into a Workout Routine

I'm pretty good about working out regularly when I'm at home as I go to barre but I definitely slack off while I'm at school. I went for a run around campus last week and then did barre over the weekend while I was home so I definitely want to start getting more into the routine of working out regularly!
